My Review-
This was a nice change from that horrid movie that I watched yesterday. This was a really eye opening documentary about the war, that the news does not usually show us, or for that matter cannot show us. This film, documents one year of a platoon in one of the most dangerous parts of Afghanistan, the Korangal Valley. The film is interesting because it deals with all the soldiers equally from when they get there until they leave a year later. The film is named after a fallen soldier in the 2nd Platoon Battle Company. This film does not edit out all the danger, well maybe they had to leave some in the editing room, since it was a year of filming. But what they showed as just as scary and heart wrenching because, you still cannot believe that this happened not too long ago. It shows what they do on their down time, from dancing like there's no tomorrow, or just pure boredom, Then all of a sudden they're fighting for their lives. During their deployment the directors captured one of the Platoon's dangerous mission in the Valley what they called "Operation Rock Avalanche", where it captured the fighting the loss of one of their brother in arms, and the aftermath and emotional toll it took on some of them. This is one of the most powerful War documentaries I have seen since, Brothers at War. It is hard to believe that this did not win the Oscar for Best Documentary, which it should have since people do not know what really happened over there, aside from that we saw on TV and read in the newspaper.Yes this documentary is kind of depressing but it is also funny at the same time. If you have not seen this movie watch it. It needs to be watched to see what the soldiers went through and why they are so different when they return home. To me this movie won the Oscar, because it was that good and eye opening.
