Day 152: Winter's Bone

Directed By- Debra Granik

Writer(s)- Debra Granik, Anne Rosellini

Starring- Jennifer Lawrence, John Hawkes, Garret Dillahunt

Critics Review- "An acutely gripping, grimly authentic thriller."- Jason Best "Movie Talk"

Rotten Tomatoes Rating- Critics- 94% Audience- 74%

Out of  possible 5 stars- 4 1/2 stars

My Review-

Its now official, John Hawkes is my new favorite actor, I have liked him in the past with the movies he has been in, but this sealed it. This movie was kind of slow which was the only problem for me, but was very well acted by everyone in this movie especially Hawkes and Lawrence, and I could see why they both got nominated for Academy Awards in their respective categories. At times is was still weird to see some actors who normally play comedy roles in other movies or television, and then see them in this very depressing drama. When I first started watching this movie I did not know it was going to be so depressing throughout the whole entire thing. The whole movie was like on big mystery, and we were trying to find the answers the same time as Lawrence's character was, and just like her we were kept wondering what happened and why did no one want us to find out the truth. This movie shows just how dark a human being can be when some needs to be kept hidden and how far some people will go to hid the truth from the ones looking for it. One thing I could not get over was the acting and how good it was. For Lawrence's first movie as the leading role she owned every scene that she was in, until she shared screen time with John Hawkes, who has his share of some good supporting roles, but it seems like now he is taking on the more challenging ones and the ones that had more meaning behind the characters or to me roles that will show that he has a wider range of acting. At times I forgot it was a movie that I was watching the acting was so real and not forced, when it comes to these kinds of movies those are the ones that I like the movies when the acting does not seemed forced. The thing is I think it only works for drama's and not some much comedies. If you have not seen this movie, watch it I found it streaming on Netflix so it will be an easy watch, and hopefully you will like it as much as I did.

Day 151: Wet Hot American Summer

Directed By- David Wain

Writer(s)- David Wain, Michael Showalter

Starring- Janeane Garofalo, David Hyde Pierce, Molly Shannon, Paul Rudd, Christopher Meloni, Michael Showalter, Bradley Cooper, Amy Poehler, Michael Ian Black, Zak Orth, Marguerite Moreau, Ken Marino

Critics Review- "Have a good summer."- Terry Lawson "Detroit Free Press"

Rotten Tomatoes Rating- Critics- 31%  Audience- 81%

Out of  a possible 5 stars- 3 stars

My Review-

I have always heard about this movie, but never watched until now and I never knew all these actors were in it. It seems for some of them this may have been some of their earlier films before making it big and more well known, it seems like it should be a hidden gem but a cult classic suits it more. It's a spoof on the last day of summer camp it quite frankly is really funny, at least I thought it was. What made this movie work so well, was all the actors in the movie all were very funny as their characters; especially Rudd, Meloni, Shannon, and Black. I can see why there would be some sort of reason why the critics did not like this movie, maybe because at times it was too over the top, or cheesy but that's what made the movie funny, that at some points it would be so random you got lost at what was going on. I think it's because the movie did not take itself so seriously and was just made for shits and giggles. While watching this movie I had to re-watch some scenes because it was so funny. One thing I also liked about this movie was the little jokes that would pop-out again every now and then as the movie progressed. This movie actually made me wish I had actually gone to a summer camp, because it looked like so much fun in the movie, however I have to say these were the worst camp counselor's ever, but at the same time it seemed like they loved what they did, because all they got to do was mess around all day, talk and not really do anything. This one of those movies that you either hate or love it, and to be honest I actually really liked it, I did not love it but I was sort of in the middle, I wished some actors had bigger parts with their characters or some storylines in the movie were expanded a little more. Also I just read that  prequel is in the works with the whole original cast returning, and know that it is a spoof I cannot wait until it comes out.

Day 150: Seed of Chucky

Directed By- Don Mancini

Written By- Don Mancini

Starring- Billy Boyd, Brad Dourif, Jennifer Tilly, Redman, John Waters

Critics Review- "At least it knows it's bad."- Bill Clark "FromTheBalcony"

Rotten Tomatoes Rating- Critics- 33% Audience- 52%

Out of a possible 5 stars- 1 star

My Review-

Yeah, I have no idea where to begin with this movie. I kind of regret watching it, the whole movie was just bad and I know it was making fun of itself but common. I haven't even seen Child's Play 2, 3 or The Bride of Chucky. This one of those movies that should have stayed at just one film.

Day 149: Child's Play

Directed By- Tom Holland

Writer(s)- Don Mancini, John Lafia, Tom Holland

Starring- Chris Sarandon, Alex Vincent, Catherine Hicks, Brad Dourif, Jack Colvin, Tommy Swerdlow

Critics Review- "Is anyone ever going to make a really good movie about toys coming to life to kill people?"- "TV Guide's Movie Guide"

Rotten Tomatoes Rating- Critics- 68% Audience- 61%

Out of a possible 5 stars- 2 1/2 stars

My Review-

Okay this movie wasn't really that scary, it was rather quite dumb at times. its like really?! its a doll just kick the damn thing. Yes I will admit when I was little I was afraid of this movie, now that I am old I realize how dumb that was. There were parts of the movie that would jump at you, and other parts were more funny then scary. I have seen some of the other ones, which was Bride of Chucky and it seems like from the start they should have been more comedy than horror, it works better if it was a horror comedy. For the 80s the film makers did a good job of bringing the doll to life, and it was pretty cool. However I think this a movie that should be watched on TV, or streaming on netflix. Because to me this movie was not all that. It was some of the funny parts that made the movie for me even if it was not meant to be funny.

Day 148: Small Town Gay Bar

Directed By- Malcolm Ingram

Written By- Malcolm Ingram

Starring-  Jim Bishop, Jim Curtis, Rick Glandish, Fred Phelps Charles Smith, Justin Williams

Critics Review- "Ingram illustrates how gay bars function as oases of acceptance and alternative families for his good-humored, enduring subjects."- David Rooney "Variety"

Rotten Tomatoes Rating- Critics- No Score, Audience- 68%

Out of a possible 5 stars- 3 1/2 stars

My Review-

I have always heard about this documentary from the podcast's that I listen too from the same person that directed this documentary and other ones from the smodcast network, and I'am glad that I finally have seen it. Throughout this documentary we meet various homosexual couples or individuals and hear their stories about a gay bar they attended called "Rumors" and another bar called "Crossroads/Seasons". For me I saw them as normal people looking to have a good time at the only place they can that can which is that bar. In the documentary see various interviews about how people disapprove of their lifestyle and how it should be changed, especially a interview by Fred Phelps a well known person for having a hatred for almost everything. It also deals with the people struggling with the fact that people are ignorant about their lifestyle and cannot accept it. One part of the documentary deals with the brutal killing of a gay man, Scotty Joe Weaver. You can read more about it here; http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scotty_Joe_Weaver. I really enjoyed this documentary for various reasons, for one I am a support for same sex marriage and for same sex couples. It still sad that people are denying these people happiness and causing trouble for them just because they want to go to a bar like normal people and have a drink and a good time. During the course of the documentary we got to know these individuals and have a better understanding of who they were as a person. And during this time we were able to see how they were outside of the time that they spent at the bar, and during the documentary for me I was able to get to know these people more even though I had never met them before I felt like I knew and understood these individuals more then what we see on the news and in other media. These people are not concerned about everything that is out their in the media, but more concerned with going to the bars and being stopped just because they are gay. At times some of the people will take it a little more light hearted than others and I guess that is what made them more interesting then they already were they were just trying to have fun with people who are like them and get away from everything. The only problem that I had with this documentary is that I wished it was a little longer than it was. Ingram did a really good job for one of his first documentaries that he made, and I look forward to watching his other one Bear Nation, that I have heard about. If you want to know more about the gay community or you are already accepting of their lifestyle they should have this documentary it is really a good perspective from actual individuals then in other media. This documentary also gives some light on different peoples opinions on how they do not like of they live, which is kind of retarded in my opinion, because some people are just arrogant and cannot except people for who they are.

Day 147: Men in Black 3

Directed By- Barry Sonnenfeld

Written By- Etan Cohen

Starring- Will Smith, Josh Brolin, Tommy Lee Jones, Alice Eve, Jemaine Clement

Critics Review- "It's that rare threequel that doesn't suck. Great special effects, surprising amount of heart."- Richard Roeper "Richer Roeper.com"

Rotten Tomatoes Rating- Critics- 68% Audience- 81%

Out of a possible 5 stars- 3 1/2 stars

My Review-

Well this is better than the second movie, actually way better. I'm still trying to figure out why it took a decade to bring them back for another movie, when see this movie it was sort of like they never left and it was cool to see Jones and Smith's character back on screen. What made this movie even better was Brolin doing a spot on impersonation of Jones that was weird at first then really funny. This was one of those rare, threequels that did not suck, yes it was kind of boring in some parts, but this movie had something the other two movies did not, it had heart. It had a some what emotional story line in the film that tied all of them together and explained certain things that were in the other movies. I liked the time travel story line for this film and it worked well and was funny at the same time, I kind of wished I would have seen it in 3D too see how it was, maybe next time. Another thing that worked for me was some of the supporting cast no matter how small their part was, I got a huge smile on my face when I saw Will Arnett having a cameo has a MIB agent and I think he was playing himself, if so then I loved it and seeing Bill Hader in movies more was pretty cool. I had never seen Jermain Clement act before, I only knew he was from the HBO show he was on from previews that I saw on TV, but he did make a pretty cool villain for this movie, I just hope to see him act some more in movies in the near future since he can play a good villain even though it is a comedy he was a little creepy yet funny at the same time. There were a few characters missing from the last films and it did kind of suck but some new ones made up for it a little. This movie was just as good as the first movie, since I did not like the second movie so much, this one made up for it, it just took so damn long for it to come out. If it was up to me Josh Brolin would get something for playing a younger Tommy Lee Jones because it was so good it was kind of scary at times. This is the movie too see this Memorial Day weekend if you like the Men in Black film series then go see this movie over the weekend, its a good watch it, and it makes up for some of the crappy movies that have been released in theaters since The Avengers a few weeks ago.

Day 146: Willard (2003)

Directed By- Glen Morgan

Writer(s)- Stephen Gilbert, Glen Morgan

Starring- Crispin Glover, R. Lee Emery, Laura Elena Harring, Jackie Burroughs

Critics Review- "[Glover] is fascinatingly, compelling weird."- Steven Rosen "Denver Post"

Rotten Tomatoes Rating- Critics- 65% Audience- 49%

Out of a possible 5 stars- 2 1/2 stars

My Review-

While I have never seen the original version of this film, it was quite int resting with Crispin Glover since he usually plays creepy parts it seems like the role was perfect for him. However it is a movie about rats and that is gross and creepy. One of the best things about this movie was R. Lee Emery I have always liked him since Full Metal Jacket, however he was kind of annoying in this movie. It also was a little too much at times, and a little over the top, but for the creepy factor it worked well because it is rats, killing things. So if you don't rats do not watch this movie, if you are looking for something a little creepy, then watch this movie.

Day 145: The Tillman Story

Directed By- Amir Bar-Lev

Narrated By- Josh Brolin

Starring- Pat Tillman

Critics Review- "It's heartbreaking."- Liz Braun "Jam! Movies"

Rotten Tomatoes Rating- Critics- 93% Audience- 90%

Out of a possible 5 stars- 5 stars

My Review-

This is one of the more heartbreaking documentaries I have ever watched. Pat Tillman played for the Arizona Cardinals, he gave up a multi-million dollar contract to join the Army and serve his country. The reasons behind his decisions are unknown, however the media turn his death into something else. In this documentary in way get to know who Pat Tillman was before he joined the military and the events after his death, which now we know was the cause of Fraticide (friendly fire). Throughout the documentary it goes through Pat's life, when he started football and when he left for the Army. Most of the this documentary is about how his parents wanted to uncover what happened to their son on April 22, 2004. While I really do not want to give much away because it should be watched. It goes into detail on the family and how they fought to get the truth about their son. It has interviews from some of Tillman's friends that were in the same platoon as him and their account of what happened that night. During the course of the documentary we see that the media also had a hand in twisting around certain things about Pat Tillman and why he did what he did. I do not want to give much away and if did I did not mean too, but to get the full effect of this documentary it should be watched to see what opinion you have on the film and how you feel after watching. It is up to you how you see Tillman after this documentary, did you see him as a football player looking for a purpose? or just as a normal soldier fighting for his country? This documentary also would not have worked as well as it did, aside from being a true story based off of someone who gave everything up, if it had not been narrated by Josh Brolin. He did a really good job being the narrated of what I think is his first documentary narrating. This man's life was cut way to short, I guess that's what happens when someone goes to war, however it should have never happened the way that it did.

Day 144: This Means War

Directed By- McG

Writer(s)- Timothy Dowling, Simon Kinberg

Starring- Chris Pine, Tom Hardy, Reese Witherspoon, Chelsea Handler

Critics Review- "An agreeably dim-witted effort that coasts along on the charm of it's stars."- Geoff Berkshire "Metromix"

Rotten Tomatoes Rating- Critics- 25% Audience- 65%

Out of a possible 5 stars- 2 1/2 stars

My Review-

First this movie would have been a whole lot better, if Chelsea Handler was not in the movie, shes not funny and she cannot act. Aside from that the movie was okay, it was not all that I thought it would be, the acting was not to bad both of the actors Hardy and Pine had good chemistry playing best friends going after the same girl. What would have worked a little more is if it was a different actress since she does mostly drama and not a lot of comedy she did not do so well in this movie. At times the movie did seem a bit boring that was mostly the scenes with Handler and Witherspoon, the scenes with them were not that good or funny, the scenes with Hardy and Pine made up for that. Hardy was once somewhat of a badass, not as much as he could have been, but he was one when he wanted too, along with Pine he could a little more better then he was in the film, it seemed like him playing Captain Kirk is better. However these two do make a good team and I would like to see them do another movie again one of these days. The movie also showed that if you work for the government you can use all the toys you work with for your own personal use, which is pretty cool. this movie would have also been better if there was a lot more action in it, I feel that's what it need more of was action. I think its the comedy that saved this movie for me, and not the romantic story line between the three central characters.

Day 143: The House of the Devil

Directed By- Ti West

Written By- Ti West

Starring- Jocelin Donahue, Greta Grewig, Tom Noonan, Mary Woronov, A.J. Bowen, Dee Wallace

Critics Review- "Now this is how you make a scary movie. The House of the Devil is a delicious throwback to the golden era of Hollywood horror-- one that is unapologetically earnest and overwhelmingly committed to the task at hand."- Simon Miraudo "Quickflix"

Rotten Tomatoes Rating- Critics- 86% Audience- 56%

Out of a possible 5 stars- 5 stars

My Review-

It is rare that I give a horror movie 5 stars or love a horror movie as much as I did this one. I like horror movies, mostly the ones from the 70s and 80s some from the 90s and very few from the 00s, but this one which is seemingly set in the 1970s or 80s it is not really mentioned was possibly the best one I have seen in a long time next to Cabin in the Woods and Drag Me to Hell. Yes it was a slow but it was the time of horror film that built up until the final minutes of the film, kept you wondering what was going to happen next to the main character and the strange house she was in. I had never heard of Ti West or this film until a friend of mine told me about this movie and his other one that recently came out a while ago, which I will watch and review for this blog later. The feeling of this movie seemed like a homage to the horror movies from back in the day, where some of the best horror movies came out before all of the remakes, which I loved since one of my favorite horror movies of all time is John Carpenter's Halloween, which I loved about this movie because at the same time it had that scenario of the babysitter in the empty house and then changed the whole thing entirely. I think its the pace of the pace of the movie that sets most of it a part from the horror movies now a days since it slowly built up to the third act and then did not stop. Another thing that worked for this movie was the acting from the actors, Tom Noonan usually plays the creepy role and he does it well in this film as the creepy home owner, now with the main actor Jocelin Donahue I have never really seen her act until I watched this movie, and she did well in this movie for me she should stick to horror movies it seems like this is a genre that she could own if she keeps doing these types of films. If you like horror movies from the 70s and 80s or that start slowly and build up watch this movie it is so worth it. These are the times of horror movies that should be made, not remakes or reboots, movies that build the suspense and keeps us wonder whats gonna happen next.

Day 141: Major League II-

Directed By- David S. Ward

Writer(s)- Davis S. Ward, R.J. Stewart, Tom S. Parker, Jim Jennewein

Starring- Charlie Sheen, Omar Epps, Tom Berenger, Corbin Bernsen, Dennis Haysbert, David Keith, Bob Uecker

Critics Review- "Copies the first one, but forgets the charm and good humor."- Scott Weinberg "eFilmCritic.com"

Rotten Tomatoes Rating- Critics- 5% Audience- 45%

Out of a possible 5 stars- 2 1/2 stars

My Review-

Although this was a good movie, it was not as funny as the original one. It did have its moments here and there but not as much as I hoped it would. One think that sucked is that Wesley Snipes was not back as Willlie Mayes Hayes as he was in the first one, however the rest of the cast was back which was awesome. It does some what repeat the same kind of story line as the previous one with the mean owner who hates them and the team starts to win just to spite her. Although some of the new characters were funny and made some memorable scenes it just not quite get the feeling of the first movie. I sort of did not like Charlie Sheen in this movie not as much as the first one, but towards the end he was pretty cool. I am not gonna watch the third one since none of the original cast is back so it was just the first two movies.

Day 133: Major league

Directed By- David S. Ward

Written By- David S. Ward

Starring- Charlie Sheen, Wesley Snipes, Tom Berenger, Corbin Bernsen

Critics Review- "Crowd-pleasing '80s underdog sports comedy."- Sandie Angulo Chen "Common Sense Media"

Rotten Tomatoes Rating- Critics- 85% Audience- 78%

Out of a possible 5 stars- 3 1/2 stars

My Review-

At first I thought I wouldn't like this movie, but I did it's a funny sports movie that I enjoyed watching and seeing some of the actors in funny roles like Snipes and Sheen. The movie had more funny parts than serious arts and I like the fact that you got to enjoy each of the characters presence in the scenes, along with memorable scenes that can be talked about with people who have also seen it. I will watch the sequel at a later date, but not the third one since it doesn't have the original cast in the film. This movie had memorable characters which is a good thing for a comedy like this, so that your able to talk about it with other people. This a really funny sports movie and if you have never seen it you will enjoy it. Now I am looking forward to the sequel, and hopefully you will too.

Day 140: Winnie the Pooh (2011)

Directed By- Stephen J. Anderson, Don Hall

Writer(s)- Stephen J. Anderson, Clio Chiang, Don Dougherty, Don Hall, Brian Kesinger, Nicole Mitchell, Jeremy Spears, Kendelle Hoyer

Starring- John Cleese, Jim Cummings, Travis Oates, Tom Kenny, Bud Luckey, Craig Ferguson, Jack Boutler, Kristen-Anderson Lopez, Wyatt Hall

Critics Review- "It doesn't matter that the film is just for kids. When it does it job right, everyone watching it is a kid."- Eric D. Snider "Salon.com"

Rotten Tomatoes Rating- Critics- 91% Audience- 78%

Out of a possible 5 stars- 3 stars

My Review-

When watching this movie, I felt like a little kid again. I had seen and still own the original one and when I first saw the preview for this movie I was sold, because it is Winnie the Pooh and the rest of his friends from the Hundred Acre wood. Even though it was not multiple stories like the original one I still liked it. It had a few songs here and there and that were cool and went well with the movie. It did kind of suck that it was not the original voices, granted most of them are dead it was just kind of weird to hear some of the characters sound way differently then before. Aside from that for it was like Winnie the Pooh never left, and was there were some scenes for me that stood out more then others and characters that I realized why they were my favorite to begin with. I cannot see why some people did not like Winnie the Pooh, its Winnie the Pooh! we grew up watching it, well I did, and this movie brought back memories of when I was little, and I did feel like a kid again watching it. It was a short movie, a little over an hour but it worked perfectly for it. I liked how the theme song was by Zooey Deschanel it was different and John Cleese was pretty awesome as the narrator for the movie, I loved how they kept it as if he was reading a book, where the lettering would fall off into the story, or they would interact with the narrator during certain scenes, for me that is was made Winnie the Pooh awesome and I am glad they kept that element of the movie in it. Even though it is for little kids, it can be for anybody that grew up reading the books, watching the cartoons, or have seen the original movie. This was a good way to bring it back for this new generation. I hoping that another one does come out and I will go see that one as well.

Day 139: The Shadow

Directed By- Russell Mulcahy

Written By- David Koepp

Starring- Alec Baldwin, John Lone, Penelope Ann Miller, Peter Boyle, Ian McKellen, Tim Curry, Jonathan Winters

Critics Review- "It looks nice, but rarely works."- Ken Hanke "Mountain Xpress"

Rotten Tomatoes Rating- Critics- 34% Audience- 39

Out of a possible 5 stars- 2 stars

My Review-

This movie had me confused at times, the beginning I found myself wondering what the hell was going on, and for some of the movie I was still like that. Some of the acting was okay, I like Peter Boyle in the film even though he was not in it that much. The other think I liked about this movie was the time setting that it was in since I am into that time period where they got where suits all the time. It had something to do with Ghanis Kahn or something like that or his nephew I'm not too sure. I am not too sure why Ian McKellen was in the movie he did not have a very big part, and half the time it was one or two words that sounded like he was bored or something. When Baldwin became his alter ego, "The Shadow", I thought he over acted in all the scenes and should have toned it down a bit. Even the climax of the movie was too over acted, and I was just waiting for the scene to be over with. At times there was some comedic relief that made the movie a little bit better but other than that it was confusing, over acted and it just looked nice because of the time period it was set in.

Day 138: The Addams Family

Directed By- Barry Sonnenfeld

Writer(s)- Caroline Thompson, Larry Wilson

Starring- Raul Julia, Christopher Lloyd, Christina Ricci, Anjelica Houston, Dan Hedaya, Jimmy Workman, Elizabeth Wilson,

Critics Review- "Deliciously sick and delightfully cast.- Angie Errigo "Empire Magazine"

Rotten Tomatoes Rating- Critics- 60% Audience- 65%

Out of a possible 5 stars- 3 stars

My Review-

I am not too familiar with the original television show or cartoon about this family, but I found the movie to be quite funny and liked the cast in the movie as well. At times the movie was a little cliche and slow down a wee bit but I think it is because of the way that the family was and how they expressed themselves. This is the second movie that I have seen with Raul Julia, the other being Street Fighter, and between those two movies I liked this movie more with him, maybe because it was sort of a comedy role, and he was not trying to destroy the world. One of my favorite actors in the movie was Christopher Lloyd, who I have always liked since Back to the Future. Seeing a young Christina Ricci was also pretty cool even though her part was a wee bit small. There is a sequel to this movie that I will watch and review as well, but not the third one since it has none of the original cast in it, and was direct-to-DVD, which is kind of lame. So all in all I quite enjoyed this movie and will most likely watch it again another day for fun.

Day 137: Hard Rain

Directed By- Mikal Salomon

Written By- Graham Yost

Starring- Christian Slater, Morgan Freeman, Randy Quaid, Minnie Driver

Critics Review- "A surprisingly enjoyable thriller."- Forrest Hartman "Reno Gazette-Journal"

Rotten Tomatoes Rating- Critics- 25% Audience- 36%

Out of a possible 5 stars- 2 1/2 stars

My Review-

Okay so I am doing this really last minute because of a paper I am doing for class. So here it goes, this was a enjoyable film for a few reasons; it had Morgan Freeman, and it had a pretty good story like stealing 3 million dollars during a flood not a lot of people would do that. Although it did have some cheesy lines because it was the 90s it still kind of worked, the acting was not to bad it was all the actors did a pretty good job except for Minnie Driver, I do not think she did as well as she could have, and a year before she was nominated for an Oscar, so something happened. Other than that it was a pretty cool movie it had me drawn to it, it just could have gone into some characters a little more, and had a few more actions scenes.

Day 136: Waking Sleeping Beauty

Directed By- Don Hahn

Written By- Patrick Pacheco

Narrated By- Don Hahn

Critics Review- "Waking Sleeping Beauty will matter only to those who grew up on Walt Disney's animated films. In other words, all of us."- Robert W. Butler "Kansas City Star"

Rotten Tomatoes Rating- Critics- 71%

Out of a possible 5 stars- 5 stars

My Review-

This documentary is told entirely from archive footage by the people who worked at Disney Animation narrated by one of them. We get too see how the Disney Animation works, the people behind some of our favorite animated movies, what made them what they are. We also get a look at how the Animation at Disney was almost know more. The entrance of Eisner and Katzenberg, the riff between the animators and Katzenberg, the highs and lows of the great animation company and how they came back to be the makes of great animated features. We get a look at how The Little Mermaid was made along with Beauty and the Beast and what is considered their crowning achievement, The Lion King. This is what make this documentary works is that we see everything first hand and how everything worked at the Disney Animation Studio, and how for awhile it was not going so well, then boom everything starts falling into place, and if it was not for all the hard work of all the animators and the frustration that everyone went through you can tell that it all paid off for them. It was never boring it was always interesting to see what everyone thought about working there during that time, and how they had trouble with Katzenberg and what he was doing to the animation studio, how he moved and wanted to cut certain scenes out of movies, that today stand has some of the best ones in those animated features. This documentary is told from the year 1984-1994, from the first computer animated movie, The Rescuers: Down Under to the team up of Pixar, the Death of the man who made the music for 3 of Disney's most cherished films and how he helped the animator movies reach its glory again along with the animators who never gave up on making these films. This documentary made me respect animators and the animation they work so hard on even more. And if you watch this it will too, it seemed like this documentary was made for all Disney fans to see the hard work that was put into these movies that we love and how it is a long process filled with ups and downs and shows at the same time they can still find time to have fun. This is one documentary that should be watched by all Disney fans.

I have been wanting to see this movie for a long time now, and I have to admit this movie was really funny. I think it is because I'am starting to like British comedies more and more. Also with this movie it introduced the characters one by one and you got to know the characters and enjoy them which I really liked about this movie we got to see the reasoning behind their motive on why they wanted to go "Full Monty". There was not one character that you could be drawn too, each character is like able in their own way because of their own unique personalities. One thing that also drove the movie was the comedic timing of certain scenes and the musical cues that went with it. At times the movie was too much of a downer, but then it would change back to a funny scene, I kind of wish I could have seen the play since it came out years after this film, as well because I am hoping that it is just as funny as with these actors. After seeing this movie I saw that these actors fit the roles perfectly and no one else could play them, the highlight of the film was seeing Tom Wilkinson in a comedic role which I rarely see with his films, it was good to see him in a less dramatic roll, the same with Robert Carlyle, if you have not seen this movie watch it, its pretty damn funny and the music is great. The film also tackles a lot of subjects in funny ways that make the movie go a little smoother and does not take itself to seriously at times since it seems like it was made with all the actors just having a good time filming the movie. This is one of those movies that should not be missed because of the such odd casting in this type of movie you want to see them sort of succeed even if they are probably going to be the worst strippers ever. Its a good movie, its funny so just watch it.

Day 134: Police Academy: Mission to Moscow

Directed By- Alan Metter

Writer(s)- Randolph Davis, Michael S. Chodos

Starring- Michael Winslow, G.W. Baily, Ron Perlman, Claire Forlani, Christopher Lee

Critics Review- "Desperately, aggressively, obnoxiously incept slapstick fare."- Scott Weinberg "eFilmcritic.com"

Rotten Tomatoes Rating- Critics- No Score Audience- 36%

My Review-

Yeah this movie is not as good as I kinda hoped it would be, since I did like the other ones. It just was not the same without some of the original cast, some of the comedy in the movie seemed forced and the only funny person in the movie was Ron Perlman. Too me he made the film better.

Day 132: American Psycho

Directed By- Mary Harron

Written By- Mary Harron; Based on the book by- Bret Easton Ellis

Starring- Christian Bale, Willem Dafoe, Jared Leto, Josh Lucas, Reese Witherspoon

Critics Review- "The best monster movie in years."- Michael Thomson "BBC"

Rotten Tomatoes Rating- Critics-67% Audience- 83%

Out of a possible 5 stars- 5 stars

My Review-

I think I found one of my new favorite movies. I had only heard, but not seen this movie until today. I can see why Bale has possibly gone down as one of the best villains of all time 5 possibly scariest in my opinion. This was possibly one of the strangest movies I have seen with Bale and after watching this one I can see that he is one of the best actors out there, he already won an Oscar for the Fighter, and I believe that he should get the change to be nominated for another Oscar, even though this movie is about 12 years old, you can see how versatile he is as an actor and the different parts he choose he just makes the movie stand out more, like with this one and the Batman series with Nolan. This movie had some confusing parts, but also some really brutal parts as well, it was shocking at times to see Bale in this kind of a role because you never see him in a role like this before, well I have never seen him in one like this but I enjoyed it because I got to see a different side of his acting. I was just as surprised with the movie, and I would like to read the book now to see how good the book is because the movie was really good as well. Also I can see why it as the following that it has the characters are not hard to follow, the acting is really good, as some actors I did not expect to be in this movie. And Bale has created an character for people to remember for years to come and that character is Patrick Bateman. Even though a direct to DVD sequel did come out which had nothing to do with the original movie, which sucks for these times of films, because it just kind of ruins it. This is another movie that I would like to own on Blu Ray, and watch again another time to try to understand the movie a little bit more, or watch just for the acting by Bale and the others actors. Especially to see how I can try to understand the ending because I was a little bit confused. If you have not seen this movie watch it for how well this movie is acted and so you can see why it gained the following that it did. The critic was right in way, Bale's character can be considered a monster.

Day 131: Next

Directed By- Lee Tamahori

Writer(s)- Jonathan Hensleigh, Paul Bernbaum

Starring- Nicolas Cage, Julianne Moore, Jessica Biel, Troy Kittles

Critics Review- "Next isn't a great movie, but I enjoyed it anyway."- Scott Nash "Three Movie Buffs"

Rotten Tomatoes Rating- Critics- 28% Audience- 59%

Out of a possible 5 stars- 2 1/2 stars

My Review-

I thought this movie could have been a little better, with a different actor other than Nicolas Cage as the main character.  I do not know who else could play this role but I believe it could have been a lot better if it was not for him in it. Other than that I liked some of the other actors in the movie, the story was okay, but that is about it. It is also the right length in running time, not too long, not too short, just right. However I would not recommend renting this movie, wait for it to come on TV, it will get rid of most of the boring parts in it.

My Review-

This movie was not  good at all, there were a few characters that I liked in the film and hope they are in the next one. This movie was all over the place and was ridiculous at times and I will not watch it again, but glad I got it out of the way for this list.

Day 129: Crazy, Stupid, Love.

Directed By- Glenn Ficarra, John Requa

Written By- Dan Fogelman

Starring- Steve Carell, Emma Stone, Ryan Gosling, Marissa Tomei, Julianne Moore, Kevin Bacon

Critics Review- "It's romantic, touching, a little risque and screwball, yet reassuringly down-to-earth."-Colin Covert "Minneapolis Star Tribune"

Rotten Tomatoes Rating- Critics- 78% Audience- 81%

Out of a possible 5 stars- 4 stars

My Review-

When I first saw this trailer I wanted to see it right away, maybe it was because of the music that was in the trailer made it worth watching, and it was. This movie was both funny and sad at the same time, with certain scenes, I was a little surprised that Kevin Bacon, and Marissa Tomei were not in the movie as much as I thought they were going to be. This movie had me into from start to finish, it was funny where it need to be funny and had heart where it was supposed to be. Some of the funniest parts were with Carell and Gosling, I think they worked well on screen together and I am hoping to see them in another film together if it will ever be possible. One of the main reasons why I wanted to watch this movie was because of Emma Stone, and she was funny in it as well funny then I thought she would be. I was surprised to see the boy from Zathura in this movie as Carell's son I liked him more in this movie then I did the other one. Everyone in the cast played their character well and made their characters believable as family and friends. While this movie most likely will not be everybody, if you want to watch it, it is an enjoyable watch and a good comedy/drama. It is worth the almost 2 hour watch to see these actors be funny and romantic in the film, especially the chemistry between Carell, and Gosling,  and Gosling and Stone. I am glad to have watch this movie and it was everything that I expected out of a romantic comedy. So if you want to watch a good romantic comedy. Watch this movie.

Day 128: Sixteen Candles

Directed By- John Hughes

Written By- John Hughes

Starting- Molly Ringwald, Justin Henry, Anthony Michael Hall

Critics Review- "Racy, drunken, hilarious '80s high school comedy."- Randy White "Common Sense Media"

Rotten Tomatoes Rating- Critics- 85% Audience- 84%

Out of a possible 5 stars- 2 1/2 stars

My review-

This is supposed to be a classic movie from the 80s and at times it is pretty funny other times it isn't. This movie is all that, like some people say it is, I liked The Breakfast Club better, which was made after this movie so in way we kind of see where one of the characters in this movie is going to be typecasted for some of the other Hughes movies. I understand that this movie is supposed to be about a girl's sixteenth birthday but even the though Ringwald is cute, she was really annoying in the film and I did not like her character one bit. Not all the characters were like able in this film, it seems like the ones that were not in it as often were better ten the title characters in it. However I did like some parts of the movie where Michael Hall was in it. It seems like he made the movie funny when his character was around and so did some of the grandparents, other than that it is not all that is says to be. I can see why Family Guy makes fun of the last scene of the movie. I prefer Family Guy's version better.

Day 127: Cars 2

Directed By- John Lasseter

Written By- Ben Queen

Starring- Owen Wilson, Larry the Cable Guy, Eddie Izzard, Michael Caine, Emily Mortiemer, Jason Issacs, Bruce Campbell

Critics Review-"For the first time in it's 25 year existence, Pixar has created an utterly ordinary film."-Mike Scott "Times Picayune"

Rotten Tomatoes Rating- Critics- 38% Audience- 55%

Out of a possible 5 stars- 2 1/2 stars

My Review-

This is not the best film that Pixar has made. However it was not that bad it had laughs here and there but it was from the side characters and not the main characters. Another thing if this was a kids movie how come it shows other cars trying to kill other cars? that I did not get. It did have some cool actors in the film though aside from the main two actors. I would not recommend watching this movie since it was not as good as one would hope, but then again the first film did not due to well either, even though I did like the first one this one was just a huge fall for Pixar, hopefully they can make it up with Brave.

Day 126: Everything Must Go

Directed By- Dan Rush

Written By- Dan Rush

Starring- Will Ferrell, Stephen Root, Rebecca Hall, Michael Pena, Christopher C.J. Wallace

Critics Review- "Will Ferrell plays a grown-up and proves maybe he should do it more often."- Scott Nash "Three Movie Buffs"

Rotten Tomatoes Rating- Critics- 75% Audience- 53%

Out of a Possible 5 stars- 3 stars

My Review-

I have seen few movies where Will Ferrell actually plays a dramatic role, and now that I have seen this one he should do more movies like this, even though he is known for comedy he can pull off the serious roles as well. Even though at times this movie seemed a little bit boring and you wanted to hate his character it is pulled off well by Ferrell, another good actor in the film was Christopher Wallace the son of Biggie Smalls, which he is surprisingly is able to act and hold his own with other actors around him who have been doing it longer then he has. At times I had wished it would have gone into a little more detail about Ferrell's marriage in the film and his friend played by Pena, I had hoped to see him in a bigger roll as well. Even though I did like this movie I thought it could have been a little better in certain areas of the film, like more with the characters and some parts of the story.

Day 125: The Avengers

Directed By- Joss Whedon

Writer(s)- Joss Whedon, Zak Penn

Starring- Chris Evans, Robert Downey Jr., Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo, Tom Hiddleston, Jeremy Renner, Samuel L. Jackson, Scarlett Johansson, Clark Gregg

Critics Review- "After years of build up. It's a reward to patient audiences who've been waiting for this team-up for years."- Stephen Whitty "Newark Star-Ledger"

Rotten Tomatoes Rating- Critics- 93% Audience- 95%

Out of a possible 5 stars- 5 Stars

My Review-

I do not even know where to begin with this movie, which is a good thing in this case. This movie was just pure awesomeness from start to finish, Joss Whedon did an amazing job writing and directing a movie this big. I had faith in him when I first read he was going to write and direct this movie and I am glad that they chose him to helm this movie and possible franchise. I am still awe about this superhero movie, since it is the first of its kind like this. This movie had everything; action, comedy, suspense, more action and comedy. Another thing was the amazing fight scenes, especially between Hulk and Thor, actually all the fight scenes were actually pretty badass and well choreographed. The movie also had a lot of wonderful one liners and jokes throughout the movie between all the actors. What made this movie also work is that all the actors got equal screen time with their characters, was not how each actor got more screen time then the other. Whedon wrote in away they all got the same amount and it worked really well. Some action scenes were better than others, but the main thing that surprised me was Mark Ruffalo as the Hulk. Now at first I was a little iffy when he was chosen to replace Edward Norton for this film, but Ruffalo did an amazing job as Bruce Banner he is probably the best actor to ever play Bruce Banner/The Hulk because when he was in the film as The Hulk the movie became 10x more awesome then it already was. I do not want to spoil anything more if I have already, but this movie should be seen. It's the first movie of its kind where all types of superheroes come together like this and its done really fucking awesome. So if you have not seen this movie yet, even though it did just come out a this morning, go and see it this weekend to see the amazing job that Joss Whedon has done with this movie, it is well worth your money. Also stay because there are two post-credit scenes after the movie and they are both worth waiting for as well. It was well worth the wait in line, and it was well worth every Marvel movie starting with Iron Man, and I cannot wait too see if they make a sequel and hopefully it will top this one, and if Joss Whedon is writing and directing again, I know it will.

Day 124: La Ballon Rouge (The Red Balloon)

Directed By- Albert Lamorisse

Written By- Albert Lamorisse

Starring- Pascal Lamorisse

Critics Review- "An utterly charming little story."- Bosley Crowther "New York Times"

Rotten Tomatoes Rating- Critics- 100% Audience- 89%

Out of a possible 5 stars- 3 1/2 stars

My Review-

This was another foreign film to put on my list, and even though it was really short I quite enjoyed it.and even though this movie did not have that much dialogue in the film I was still able to understand what was going on in the film, since most of the movie was a visual story about a boy and his red balloon. This was simple storytellng at its best and did not need dialogue to let us under stand what was happening. It was almost like it was a short film, I liked the music in the film, but I did not like the fact that there was no subtitles for when they did talk during the film. Yes it was a short film, and yes I did enjoy the fact that it was done in away that you felt sorry for the boy at the end of the film, but happy at the same time. Since it is really short with a run time of almost 35 minutes, and you want to see a old foreign film this is one to watch. This is one of those films that time just flies by when you watch it since you are so into the movie, because with the movie it was all about the visuals and not so much the dialogue of the story. This movie was plain and simple. A story about a boy and his red balloon.

Day 123: TMNT

Directed By- Kevin Munroe

Written By- Kevin Munroe

Starring- Sarah Michelle Gellar, Patrick Stewart, Mako, Chris Evans, Kevin Smith, Lawrence Fishburne

Critics Review- "Never strays too far from its inner turtle."-Mark Sells "Oregon Herald"

Rotten Tomatoes Rating- Critics- 34% Audience-64%

Out of a possible 5 stars- 3 stars

My Review-

Well yes I am writing this review at almost the last minute, and I kind of do not feel good at the moment, I will try to write as much as I can. This was better than the the 3rd one in my opinion and still had that feel to it when I saw the original ones as a kid. I enjoyed the comedy and the action and for it is like they never left. Even though I did not like the animation too much, I did enjoy the story line of the movie. Even though it could not be the original voice actors as the previous movies I still liked it. Even Mako as Splinter because he was Uncle Iroh in The Last Airbender which I liked alot about this movie as well. I am kind of bummed out that the movie was not a little longer, because it was quite short, shorter than it need to be in my opinion. If you like the Ninja Turtles movies I am sure you will like this one.

Day 122: Plan 9 from Outer Space

Directed By Ed Wood

Written By- Ed Wood

Starring- Gregory Walcott, Mona McKinnon, Tom Keen, Tor Johnson, Dudley Manlove, Joanna Lee, John Breckinridge, Vampira, Bela Leugosi

Critics Review- "Yes, it's so awful it's almost good. Here is the birth of camp in cinema."- Cole Smithey "ColeSmithey.com"

Rotten Tomatoes Rating- Critics- 66% Audience- 45%

Out of a possible 5 stars- 2  stars

My Review-

I was confused throughout this whole movie, and spoilers its about alien's and they were not that smart. I think I figured out why this is considered one of the worst movies ever made, but cannot see why on rotten tomatoes it holds a 66% its kind of confusing to see why it has that. At times I was enjoying the movie but other times I was just really confused because I did not know what the fuck was going on with this movie. so if you want too see how bad this movie is watch it, if you don't want to, never watch this movie.
