Day 91: Easy A

My Review-

I think that I fell more in love with Emma Stone after watching this movie. This was a pretty damn funny from the whole entire cast, especially from Stone's on-screen Parents; Clarkson and Tucci, they were perfect as her parents I could not quite see anyone else doing as good as job as they did. One person I did not seeing doing a good job like she did was Amanda Bynes, her character was funny as Olive's sort of rival at the school or person who was trying to "save" her from her bad doings. This was Emma Stone's first role as the lead and she carried the movie very well as Olive Penderghast. I also love how there was references to hit movies from the 80s that were about high school, that was kind of in Stone's situation. This was one of the more funnier movies that I have seen in a long time, I think it is because some of the comedic timing was just right for this movie, from everyone in the movie, the only thing that I had a problem with in this movie, even though she was not in it for that long was Lisa Kudrow, to me I just do not think she is that funny. The movie also had good music, especially the recurring joke of "Pocketful of Sunshine", from Natasha Benningfield. Well I did like this movie, I kind of hoped that the parents were in the movie a little more because Clarkson and Tucci made the movie even funnier during the scenes at Olive's house. If you have not seen this movie I do recommend watching it is a good funny movie, that does not stop being funny even during some of the more serious scenes it has some hints of still being funny. Know one that I can think go could have played the character of Olive better than Emma Stone did, she was perfect for the role. So was the supporting cast; all were funny in the roles they were in and did not seem to over do it while in character. I do recommend watching this movie.

My Review-

The first silent film to win the Academy Award for Best Picture in 83 years. However I still need to watch a few more films to see if it should have won this years Best Picture, now I am not talking down the film I enjoyed it very much it was good, and some scenes really stood out for me than others in this film. This is the second film to be on my daily movie that is a silent film, I will admit at first I did not want to watch it because in my opinion I am very picky about the silent films that I watch and will some times most likely enjoy since they were the first time of films made. What made this film work for me is that it dealt with the end of the silent film era and the start of the "talkies". Even though it is a silent film, the acting works really well in the film, because it is all about facial expressions to tell us what is going on with actors. Once again like in most of his movies John Goodman was my favorite in the scenes that he was in, I was surprised to see some of the actors that I saw in the movie. I applaud this movie for taking the risk at making a silent film, and then it winning Best Picture is a huge achievement. The main reason I believe the movie did so well was because of the acting by Dujardin he just had a presence on screen that instantly made you like him, like some of the silent film starts from back in their time. At times for me the movie felt just a tad bit boring, then the next scene would pick back up and kept going. One of my favorite scenes in the film is the dream that Dujardin's character has about hearing sound for the very first time, I thought that scene was done very well and had hoped they would have done a little more with sound and not until the very end, but it would not have worked like it did if there was sound only twice in the film like there was. This was a good movie, but I need to watch a few others to give my opinion on what movie should have won best picture this year, I just have a few more to watch.

Rotten Tomatoes Rating- Critics- 95% Audience- 93%

My Review-

There have been some documentaries that I have seen so far during these last few months for my one movie a day, and only two have made me angry at what I was watching. Not angry in a way that I regret watching the movie, or choosing it for that day. Angry in the way, that I could not believe this was happening and no one was there to try and stop it. They just let it go on as if it did not bother them that much. The Cove is a documentary about one man Rick O'Barry and the group of people he recruited to tell this horrifying story of how thousands of dolphins are killed each year in Japan. The worst part is the last half of the documentary, which is also in a way the best part of the movie; it sort of becomes a spy movie, since they need to capture the slaughter of the dolphins at this cove in Japan without getting caught. So in way it way it became a spy thriller while still being a documentary about awareness. The reason why it became horrifying is because of the footage that the cameras caught, were almost hard to watch, but needs to be watched because of what is going on. The documentary also deals with all the sort of politics of why this happening and why it goes on, also it goes into the other people that are trying to stop it, by risking everything. This is a documentary that needs to be watched, it should not be passed up because it looks boring or you do not want to watch it because of what it's about, you should watch it because, you need to be aware of what is going on. I am glad that I watched this documentary to see what was going on in Japan, and most of the people that live in Japan were like myself and probably still are, they have no idea that his is going on. You want to watch a documentary that will keep you at the edge of your seat or wanting you to see what is going to happen next? watch this film.

Day 88: BASEketball

Directed By- David Zucker

Writer(s)- David Zucker, Robert LoCash, Lewis Friedman, Jeff Wright

Starring- Trey Parker, Matt Stone, Yasmine Bleeth, Jenny McCarthy, Robert Vaughn

Critics Review- "Sick, twisted, and very funny, Parker and stone have arrived. Again.

Rotten Tomatoes Rating-  Critics- 42% Audience-74%

Out a possible 5 Stars- 2 1/2 stars

My Review-

At times this movie can be too over the top, and other times it is really funny but all in all what made the movie was the two main characters, who also created South Park, Trey Parker and Matt Stone. For me this was really the only thing that had me going in this movie. Some of the scenes were funnier than others, a little more gross, but it seemed to have the trade mark south park humor. I liked how they had real sports commentators in the movie which brought a little more realism to the movie, it seems like the cheesiness of some of the touchy scenes worked best for the movie, and it made it a little bit funnier then is should have been. I liked all the cameos they had in the movie of real sports athletes and superstars from the 1990s, what is a very confusing game at times turns out to be a pretty good movie, but it is a movie that should be only watched once in a great while, but not all the time.

Critics Review- "Thanks for nothing Zack Synder."- Mike Edwards "What Culture"

My Review-

The only thing going for this movie, are the hot girls in the movie. Frankly that was the best part of the movie for me. The rest of it was just kind of confusing, at some points I did not know what the hell was going on with this movie, one of the only other reasons why I wanted to watch was because Jon Hamm was going to be in it and he was in it for like all of 2 minutes! that is totally uncalled for. Other times the movie was quite interesting with the music that was chosen to go along with the movie...but Emily Browning does not say a word for the first 20 minutes of the film! and she's the main character, there was something wrong with that picture. You would think since she is the main character she would talk more, the best part of the movie was the Opening leading up to the title of the movie, after that it just got kind of boring and confusing. I had more hope for this movie, the only good thing about was once again the girls, especially Emily Browning, as my brother said "she sure did grow up".

My Review-

There are not a lot of father son movies that I have seen that are quite as good as this one. This movie was recommended by a lot of people, and even some books that I took a looks at.  I'am glad that I chose this movie to be on my list, that is said to be one of the movies to watch before you die. In a way I do not want to give anything away because this movie should be seen, even though it was made towards the end of the 1940s and is an Italian film, that does not matter in this case. This movie made me start to love foreign films, just a little bit more. even though at times there were no subtitles when the characters were talking it was still a very good movie, that was the only problem that I had with it, were the lack of subtitles in some of the scenes, other than that it was a good movie. Without giving anything way it should be seen for yourself if you love film or would like to start watching different kinds of movies, watch this one.

My Review-

This one of the first movies to come from the once canceled series. Well watching this it felt like a glorified episode from the show. However I did like it, the show was really good then it got canceled, this made it feel like the show never really left and all the characters were just as they were before it got canceled. There were some parts that were not as funny as others, and some jokes were not as funny as I thought they would be, but watching the show when it came on, and sometimes still I still enjoyed it. The story of time travel made it more interesting the rest of the movie and how Bender would mess things up for his own personal use. I would recommend this to someone who likes the show, because it seemed like it was made for the fans and the fans only.

Rotten Tomatoes Rating- Critics- 87% Audience- 95%

Out a possible 5 stars- 4 1/2 stars

My Review-

First lets get one thing straight, this is nothing like Twilight. I do not understand why people are comparing it to the that horrible atrocious movie, when they are nothing a like now that I got that out of the way let me start off by saying that this movie had me wanting to watch it as soon as I watched the first trailer when it was released. Not having read the books I went in only knowing a little bit about the movie, but the movie from start to finish has me hooked. For me the drama was done really well and the acting was really good especially from Tucci even though his role was not that big in the film, he was really charismatic in the role has the television host sort of a Ryan Seacrest or Jeff Probst time person has the audience hanging on every word that he said. Now with Jennifer Lawrence I believe she did an amazing job in this movie, her character can be someone girls can look up to, and not that twilight chick who shows no emotion. She made you feel what she felt or question the games at times or feel the intensity of when she was trying to stay a live. I think that's what really surprised me was the acting, and the storyline of the book that for me intrigued into the movie, and how people would watch kids and teenagers kill each other as a sport and how Harrleson's character saw it for what it really was. The only problem I had with this movie is I wish that they had gone more into the back story of how The Hunger Games began, and why there was an Uprising in the first place, I believe that it would have cleared that up a little more in the story of why each year the 12 Districts chose a boy and girl to fight to the death. However as soon as the "games" officially started that is where you got really hooked to see how brutal these people became it was kind of sad even though it was only one left standing. Even the behind the scenes of how they showed the games to the Districts was kind of an aw moment to see of how to them it is just entertainment and nothing more. Lastly in no way shape or form was this like the Twilight movies, this movie and series will be 100x better than Twilight, even though I did not get to read the books before the movie came out I would like to read it now. I am looking forward to reading the books as the rest of the films that will be released on the future. All in all I really enjoyed this movie and I could see what all the hype was about, the movie was gripping when it kicked into full gear 5 mins into the movie, and it never slowed down. All the actors in the movie deserve to recognized for this movie, and I will be shocked if not one of them gets a nomination especially Tucci for Best Supporting Actor and along with Harrelson, and Best Actress for Jennifer Lawrence, these are the types of movies that should get recognized at the Awards, because it is something quite different and to even have the acting and emotional scenes to back it up alone is worth a nomination.

Day 83: Knowing

Directed By- Alex Proyas

Written By- Ryne Douglas Pearson

Starring- Nicolas Cage, Rose Bryne, Chandler Canterbury, Lara Robinson

Critics Review- "It's a Nicolas Cage movie, so, admit it, you're expecting crazy. You Have no idea."- Ty Burr "Boston Globe"

Rotten Tomatoes Rating- Critics- 34% Audience- 50%

Out a possible 5 stars- 1 1/2 stars

My Review-

Seriously, this movie is probably one of the worst Nicolas Cage movies I have seen in awhile. The plot kind of makes no sense towards the end of the movie, and it does not need to be 2 hours long, that is just way to much for a movie like this to be that long. At times I had no IDEA what the hell he was saying because he would be whispering. And why would anyone believe his crack pot theory about the ideas, he gets the idea about the numbers when he was drinking, and when he spilled his drink that's when he figured it out...like wow really? And that kid who played his son, what the hell he could not act, for the life of him he always had the same expression on his face. Plus there is a really ridiculous scene involving a cop, Cage and a airplane crashing, where the cop runs away from the plane that's crashing...BUT it comes from the right hand side of him when he is looking over Cage's should that is the worst part of the film, well not the the worst part but this one stood out the most to me. Another thing about this movie was that Cage's hair was SO distracting. At times I found myself asking why would Nicolas Cage make a movie like this? I was hoping Rose Byrne would help save this movie, since she is pretty good actor but sadly she could not it was just bad line delivery at times. If your looking for a bad movie to watch this is it, but if your looking for something you will enjoy...do not watch this movie, it is boring and too damn long for this type of movie.

Starring- Paul Rudd, Seann William-Scott, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, Bobb'e J. Thompson, Jane Lynch Elizabeth Banks

Rotten Tomatoes Rating- Critics- 77% Audience- 75%

My Review-

Paul Rudd wrote this, what more could you ask for!? I have always wanted to watch this movie, I tired to once but my mom deleted if from the TV. Having watched I could not stop laughing, the movie was funny from start to finish, the casting was just right for the movie. this is probably the funniest comedy next to Hot Rod that I watched, at first I never knew that Paul Rudd had helped right this and he did a a really awesome job. One person that made the movie as funny as it was was the young kid Bobb'e J. Thompson, I think without him it would have been funny but not as funny as it could have been, the scenes that he was in stole the movie. At times I thought the movie couldn't have used certain scenes but other scenes worked really well for this movie. one of the best scenes was the fight scenes at the end the big sort of middle earth battle. I was really surprised on how well Paul Rudd did with doing some of the writing in this movie, since I had never seen anything that he had written before. I shouldn't have had anything to worry about in the first place since I like Paul Rudd as an actor, and now I hope that he writes more movies in the future. The co-star Seann William Scott was funny in this film as well; for me this was one of his funniest movies in a long time possibly since the Rundown. If you have not seen this movie you should, its really funny, and has good comedic timing from all the actors.

Day 81: Hot Rod

Directed By- Akiva Schaffer

Critics Review-"Ferociously stupid and often very funny."- Donald Munro "Fresno Bee"

Rotten Tomatoes Rating- Critics- 39% Audience- 64%

Out a possible 5 stars- 3 stars

My Review-

This was a very stupid movie, and I loved it. It was so cheesy and awkward but it was meant to be that way which made it as funny as it was. The whole cast made it has funny as it was with the little stupid one-liners, or reacting or not reacting in certain scenes. I watched this with my friends so it was even funnier watching it with a group of people. One of the reasons why I wanted to watch this it had some of my favorite people from SNL, and other movies such as Hader, McBride, Samberg, and especially McShane, whose relationship with Samberg made the whole movie funnier. Some of the best parts were when they were dancing to the cheesy 80s music at the most random moments. However one of the best things about this movie was Will Arnett even though he was not even in this movie that long, he stole the scenes that he was in. I am glad that I watched it when it came out on DVD, because I got to enjoy it even more. I like how it was made to be cheesy and kind of stupid, and did not take itself to seriously, If it did it would not have been as funny. If you have not seen this movie but you want to, I suggest that you do watch it for it is very funny. Also it has Ian McShane in it you cannot go wrong with that guy.

Day 80: Sullivan's Travels

Directed By- Preston Sturges

Writteny By- Preston  Sturges

Starring- John McCrea, Veronica Lake

Critics Review- "Brainy Hollywood classic about importance of comedy."- Charles Cassady "Common Sense Media"

Rotten Tomatoes Rating- Critics- 100% Audience- 90%

Out of a possible 5 stars- 5 stars

My Review-

I watched this movie in my film class today, and i rather enjoyed it, even if it was made in the 1940s. Also this movie in a way did not take itself to seriously, maybe towards the end of the film but other than that it was mostly for humor and laughs. Unlike yesterday's film this had more of heart and less of the slapstick. It seemed like it was more of the Hollywood humor for back then, taking a look at what Hollywood was like during that time. One of my favorite characters was played by Veronica Lake who was a bombshell back then and I could see why, even though this was the first movie that I watched of her from what I watched she could do comedy pretty well. What made this film work as a comedy for me is that it was not over the top, it was subtle jokes sort of like how we say "BURN" when some one gets told off or gets put in their place. The little gags for the movie worked too and made it funnier then other scenes were. And it shows how one would make a movie within a movie, that made it seem like that is how it worked back then and get down and dirty for researching a film to be made. One of my favorite parts in the movie was when they should some inmates along with the main character Sullivan watching a Pluto cartoon, and how he realizes that laughter helps everyone out and he has found what he was searching for along. This movie is kind of like a comedy with a search of self discovery and appreciting everything that one has, which was what I really liked about this movie.

Day 79: Monty Python's: Life of Brian

Directed By- Terry Jones

Written By- Monty Python

Starring- Graham, Chapman, John Cleese, Terry Gilliam, Eric Idle, Terry Jones, Michael Palin

Critics Review- "Funny, in that peculiar British way where the jokes are told sideways, with the obvious point and then the delayed zinger."- Roger Ebert "Chicago Sun Times"

Rotten Tomatoes Review- Critics 96% Audience- 91%

Out a possible 5 stars- 4 1/2 stars

My Review-

This possibly one of the funniest British movies I have seen in a long time, I can rank this with Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz. One thing I really liked about this movie is that the cast played multiple characters throughout the whole movie, and were each uniquely different from each other. One of my favorite characters was Pilate and his friend even though he had a small part Biggus Dickus, it was the name along that made him one of my favorite characters, I loved the fact that I was able to see John Cleese in his prime with this kind of comedy, now a days he really does not do much comedy which kind of sucks. Even though I have yet to see all the Monty Python movies I really liked this one along with The Holy Grail. the delayed jokes also made the movie as funny as it was, or repeating jokes later on that did not make sense before. Its these kind of comedies that make me laugh has hard as I did. And too see Eric Idle, whom I had only known from the Casper movie and The Holy Grail, it was really good to see him back in his element of dry delayed humor that really works for this group. It is this type of humor that will make me want to watch all of their other movies, not so over the top comedy, but dark comedy, satire movies that come from people like this that I will keep on watching. I really enjoyed this movie and if you have not seen it I suggest that you do.

WARNING SPOILERS AHEAD!!

My Review-

This is possibly the most heartbreaking and horrifying documentary that I have ever watched. This documentary tells the story of former Priest Oliver O' Grady and how he openly admitted to molesting children and how the church tried to cover it up, and or just moved him to another church instead of getting help they just brushed it off as if it was nothing. Something like this makes me very angry, anything to do with child molestation gets me angry and the people that do that should get sent to prison or something worse should happen to them, but did that happen to O'Grady? no i did not he got to keep being a priest and kept molesting children. This documentary has footage from depositions dealing with O'Grady's case and how Mahony, and other clergy members could not answer questions dealing with O'Grady. There are also interviews with the victims and their families and how he ruined their lives forever, and in some cases lost their faith. It sickens me that the church would help conceal what he had done to children for almost 30 years and cared more about themselves instead of the children that he abused. Out of all this only one person chose to help them because he knew what the church was doing was wrong. Father Thomas Doyle chose to take their case and help them bring O'Grady to justice but along the way the church put up roadblocks from this happening. I would go on talking about the movie, but I HIGHLY suggest that this documentary be watched, it should be watched to see what happened to this victims and possibly others that haven't come forward during the almost 30 years that he did this, and the FACT that he is in Ireland right now roaming the streets free without anyone knowing what he had done, and that he is a monster for doing this to kids just sickens me, and people over should know what he did. this needs to be seen by everyone, even though it is very heartbreaking and horrifying that this happened. AND how he has that smirk on his face makes me so fucking mad, like he did not do anything wrong.

My Review-

The movie that started the horror spoofs and possibly one of the best ones ever made, sadly ruined by sequels with the exception of Scary Movie 2. Although some parts were funnier then others, at times to me it was too over the top and did not need to be in the movie. Although I can see why this is one of the best ones of the series of movies because it was truly making fun of all the horror movies during this time. I like how they put in all the little jokes from the mid and late nineties and even poked fun of the fact they were making fun of a horror spoof at times. Other than that the movie was almost like come on that joke was not that funny the first time. I read that they are coming out with another movie, although I did enjoy Scary Movie 2 as a kid, one was enough. It was funny when it first came out since I only watched bits and parts of it back then. But now its not as funny as it looks.

Even though I know this documentary is a fake, its still very strange. Even when we know that Joaquin Phoenix is putting on an act, you still have to wonder what made him want to make this mockumentary in the first place? Even cameos by other actors unknowingly wanted to know what the hell was going on. This documentary had me very confused at times, and I just wanted to end. This is one documentary that I will not be watching ever again.

My Review-

This will go on my list as one of the best documentaries that I have ever seen. There have been many documentaries on the war, and I have seen a few of them, but this will possibly the best on I have watched. in the documentary Jake Rademacher, goes to Iraq to interview his brother to see why he joined the military, and to see what its like for a soldier over there, he also goes on various missions with other platoons to see what they do on certain missions. The documentary also takes a a real hard look at certain parts of the war, such as interviews with soldiers about why they joined or what its like to be over there, or showing footage from a mission as its going on right before him. It also took a candid look at the soldiers, from them watching the O.C. and talking about their favorite characters or episodes, or having a conversation on buying Christmas presents to send home. It was a side of the soldiers life we did not see on the new or TV and it was good seeing that. It seems like the director Jake Rademacher got a real look at was going on, instead of seeing it on the TV or the news, Also as a viewer of this film I feel the same way as well. Although I never got to join the military or do what they do, but seems like Rademacher did his job well and what he wanted to show us. What it was really like over there and what it is like for the families that the toll that it takes on them from their brothers or husbands, sons being away from home, and the separation they have from them when they come home. Even though I may never know what it was like over there in Iraq, after watching this I feel like I got a little more educated on what they go through, and for that I am more grateful for that.

My Review-

All hail the king of all monsters movies! well sort of, do not get me wrong this was a pretty cool movie. Only when Godzilla was on screening, most of the scenes with the actual people were kind of boring and went on for a long time, I was always waiting for Godzilla to come back on to the screen. Well some of the actors were interesting with their story-lines and how it all came together at the end, at times some parts of the movie were kind of boring when it Godzilla was not on screen. At least was better then the one that came out in 1998 I will give it that much. Even though at times the movie was kind of cheesy with the acting I think it was made to be that way, and for being made in the time period it was made in, for this time Godzilla looked pretty real for back then. Even though tons of sequels have come out and two remakes were made, well one is one its way to be remade, this one should have been left alone as one movie. For being possibly one of the first disaster movies I think, it was very awesome. If you have never seen this version of Godzilla, and you want to then I suggest that you watch it and enjoy it for what it is, its kinda bad, and kinda dark in some scenes but it is still a good monster movie.

Day 72: The Parking Lot Movie

Directed By- Meghan Eckman

Critics Review- "Refreshingly original, spirited and provocative. Get Ready for a surprisingly enlightening and amusing experience."- Avi Offer "NYC Movie Guru"

Rotten Tomatoes Rating- Critics- 71% Audience- 77%

Out a possible 5 stars- 4 1/2 stars

My Review-

You would thing a documentary about a parking lot wouldn't be that interesting, but it surprisingly is. The people that are portrayed working at the lot in the film are all interesting in their own unique way. Each one has a different story or experience of being in the parking lot dealing with different people and reactions, and it is very entertaining. Each of the people that we meet in this documentary has a reason for working at that particular lot, most of them the same and some are different but they all share the same frustration with the people that they have to deal with on an everyday basis. Something else that makes this documentary worth watching how they talk to each attendant that works there past or present, and shows them on their shifts or talk about the shifts that they did and what they would go through on a normal day. Its kind of cool to see some one who loves their job like that even if it is just working in a parking lot taking money from people who get made that they have to pay a dollar when they drive like a SUV, or a mustang. These people that work the parking lot also don't give a fuck what people think about them, at times. To them they are on the high horse and they get to tell the people in the cars what to do, even its for a brief two minutes, they have the power. What would seem to us is a lame boring job, to them is possibly the best job in the world for that time that they are working there. As one of them put it " We had it all in a world that had nothing to offer us."

Day 71: Spirited Away

Directed By- Hayao Miyazaki

Written By- Hayao Miyazaki

Starring- Daveigh Chase, James Marsden, Lauren Holly Michael Chiklis

Critics Review- "An amazing piece of work."- Richard Roeper " Ebert & Roeper"

Rotten Tomatoes Rating- Critics- 97% Audience 95%

My Review-

This is the second movie that I have watched from Miyazaki, and this is so far my favorite one. Once again I loved the animation in this film, as the last one and with the story line and characters I can see why Miyazkai is the master of his profession. Even though I watched it in English Dub, I believe that I would have liked either way in Japanese or English. Towards the end one of my favorite characters was the baby Boh. Japanese animated movies are starting to become some of my favorite, just because of how much you can invest in some of the characters, and some characters most likely are only on screen for like 5 minutes and you still find yourself liking them. All the characters are all well liked in this film in their own way, Miyazaki was a way of writing his characters that makes them curious about something then ends up making them the hero of the story, and or someone that makes a huge difference in the people that they have met, and or the town they were in. Like many more animated movies to come on this list I hope, I will be watching more Miyazaki films to keep on seeing what I have been missing in his most talked about works of animated films.

Day 70: Like Crazy

Directed By- Drake Doremus

Written By- Drake Doremus, Ben York Jones

Starring- Anton Yelchin, Felicity Jones, Jennifer Lawrence, Alex Kingston

Critics Review- "A romantic drama that makes other romantic films look obvious and calculated in comparison."- Mick La Salle "San Francisco Chronicle"

Rotten Tomatoes Rating- Critics- 74% Audience- 67%

Out a possible 5 stars- 4 1/2 stars

My Review-

Like another movie I watched, that is not on this list "Like Crazy" makes the relationship between the two actors seem real and genuine, and not make like some of the romantic movies out today. Wonderfully acted by Yelchin, and Jones, and the supporting cast makes this slow paced movie work, they way they show their relationship from start to finish does not seemed forced, like I said before they make it believable that they were a couple in trouble. The film is loosely based on the Director Doremus' and his wife's experiences, sometimes movies loosely based on something do not work very well. However this does. Like another movie Blue Valentine, you get emotionally involved with this couple unlike the romantic movies that have almost the same story line each year. It seems like indie films have got it right with a romantic comedy or romantic drama like this one, unlike the big budget Hollywood movies with the well known actors, since this movie has more feeling to it, people maybe able to find away to connect with it and or find something different with actors that are somewhat not that well known. Another way this movie worked so well, is the way it was made, a majority of it was handheld with candid moments, also having much of the movie being improvised the actors Yelchin, and Jones were able to do what they felt was right for each scene. There are very few romantic movies that I admit that I enjoy, and now this is one of them. I 100% agree with the critic mentioned above, that is why I liked this movie so much, because there relationship seemed real from start to finish.

Day 69: In Time

Directed By- Andrew Niccol

Starring- Justin Timberlake, Amanda Seyfried, Cillian Murphy, Vincent Kartheiser

Critics Review- "For all its flaws, this remains worth some of your hard-earned time."- James White "SFX Magazine"

Rotten Tomatoes Rating- Critics- 36% Audience- 51%

Out a possible 5 stars- 2 1/2 stars

My Review-

Well I did enjoy this movie, it could have been a little bite better. The story was quite easy to understand and some of the acting was good, especially from Cillian Murphy, and that one dude from White Collar, but other than that i think they should have picked a few better actors in the roles for the movie. At times the movie did get like a little too predictable and kind of cheesy and other times it was really good. For me this seemed almost like a Bonnie and Clyde set in the future. Other then the some of the acting, and some scenes I did quite enjoyed it. Now will i recommend this movie to someone, I do not know it is up to them it's there choice, frankly I don't really think I would recommend this movie to anyone, because they could have chosen a better lead then Justin Timberlake. Don't get me wrong I liked Timberlake in The Social Network, and the movie Alpha Dog, I just think that this wasn't a movie for him to be in or carry as one of the main characters. Also its seems like Cillian Murphy, Vincent Kartheiser, and Matt Bomer, were some of the best actors in this movie, whether they were in a scene together, or with another actor.Well I did like the concept of the movie, where you stop aging at the age of 25, and have to earn time to keep living, it should have had a few better actors for it to really work, better than it did.

Day 67: The Bride of Frankenstein

 Directed By- James Whale

Written By- William Hurlbut

Starring- Boris Karloff, Colin Clive, Elsa Lanchester

Critics Review- "The greatest of all the Frankenstein films."- Dennis Schwartz "Ozus' World Movie Reviews

Rotten Tomatoes Review- Critics- 100% Audience- 83%

Out a possible of 5 stars- 4 1/2 stars

My Review-

Even though I did not like the first one, I enjoyed this more. The only thing that I see wrong with this movie is the title of it. The bride does not show up until the last 10 minutes of the movie, another thing that I really liked about the first movie was that it immediately takes place after the events of the first movie. Some things that worked for this movie that would have not worked for the first one, was that they talked about the original story of Frankenstein with someone playing the role of the author of Mary Shelly which I liked, because she was continuing the story of the movie by telling to two people wanting to hear it. For never seeing this movie before, and it being made in 1937, it still holds up after all these years as an entertaining movie. In the movie there were some really annoying characters that I thought did not need to be in the movie. It makes me want to watch some more old horror movies that are like this one, and not the ones today. For me I think that it could also work as a silent movie, but once again Karloff made the movie what it was, and how he went from being the monster, to starting to realize that some but not all people can be trusted, and that he should have stayed the monster he was then being something that he wasn't.

Day 66: Sherlock Jr.

Directed By- Buster Keaton

Starring- Buster Keaton, Kathryn McGuire, Ward Crane

Critics Review- "Clever, fun-filled intro into silent films (with subtitles)."- Carrie R.Wheadon "Common Sense Media"

Rotten Tomatoes Rating- Critics- None Audience- 94%

Out a possible of 5 stars- 4 1/2 stars

My Review-

This is my first silent film on this list. I have seeing a few silent films before and this has to probably one of the funniest that I have seen. From what I got from my professor is that Keaton was one of the most well known silent actors that did comedy, next to Chaplin. In my opinion they are both just as funny, the only thing I really had a problem with was the music, I thought that it did not fit so well with the movie, well some of the music did in certain parts, others did not. Since the whole movie was silent, I really liked how Keaton expressed his comedy sort of being over the top but not quite over. The movie was quite short but it was done well, and when it was all over I saw that it was just the right amount of time to show everything that they wanted to show in the film. I would like to add other silent films to my list, and more Buster Keaton films as well since he was also known for doing all of his own stunts, and by watching this movie some of the were really dangerous. some silent films I found to be too long and boring, but this one was just right. Maybe because it was a comedy, but I will give more and more silent films a chance whether they are serious or just for comedy.

Day 65: Following

Directed By- Christopher Nolan

Written By- Christopher Nolan

Starring- Jeremy Theobald, Alex Haw, Lucy Russell

Critics Review- "The film leaves a good impression on the viewer as one that is ably directed, written, acted, and photographed."- Dennis Schwartz "Ozus' World Movie Reviews"

Rotten Tomatoes Rating- Critics- 76% Audience- 84%

Out of a possible of 5 stars- 4 1/2 stars

My Review-

This having being Nolan's first film that lead into Memento, it is told in the same type of structure like most of his films after this one, which he is known for. I have always been a fan of Nolan and his movies, but having now seen the movie that started it all I can see now why he is one one of the best directors right now and will be for a long time. The only problem that I had with this movie was the main character of the movie, to me he could not act that well, but the best actor for me in the movie is the man that played Cobb, for me his acting and the way he played the main character caught me off guard at the end of the film. After watching this movie it will go on some of the top Nolan movies I have seen directed by him. The only other thing about this movie is that he wrote, directed, edited and did the cinematography on this movie, which was amazing that he was able to do all this for his first film. Since the movie is out of order at times it was sort of hard to follow until the very end where everything added up, its movies like this with a twist that are some of the best types of movies for me. And if you like movies with a twist at the end or something that you did not see coming then this is type of movie for you.

Day 64: 48 HRS.

Directed By- Walter Hill

Writer(s)- Walter Hill, Roger Spottiswoode, Larry Gross, Steven E. Souze, Jeb Stuart

Starring- Nick Nolte, Eddie Murphy, Annette O'Toole, James Remar

Critics Review- "It remains one of the better action-comedy buddy pictures you'll find."- John J. Puccio "Movie Metropolis"

Rotten Tomatoes Rating- Critics- 95%  Audience- 61%

Out a possible of 5 stars-

My Review-

This is when Eddie Murphy was funny, back in his 80s movies and this one that he was known for a long with a few others. I have not seen many of his movies from when he was at the top of his game, but this is the second one of those films to be featured on my list. Also I have not seen many Nick Nolte movies like I should so this is sort of killing two birds with one stone time thing, and for the buddy cop movies I really liked this one. Murphy and Nolte's chemistry having to be partners made the movie funny and serious at the same time, well because one is a convict and the other is a cop, some of which wont work to well these days. Even though Eddie Murphy does not show up until almost half an hour into the movie, the movie gets started right away in the first 5 mins you cannot wait to see how the chemistry between Nolte and Murphy will work, and just one of Remar's first films he works well as the movies main antagonist, one of the most memorable roles for me with Remar was the Warriors, where he was sort of the villain but not quite. Although there is a sequel to this movie I do not think I would like to watch seeing is how it did poorly with both the critics and the audience on rotten tomatoes. To me this is one of the those types of movies that do not need a sequel to go along with it, and should have been left alone as just one movie. There were also some really funny scenes in the movie where you had to ask yourself did he really just say that or did that just happen? For being one of the first buddy cops movies, it actually be the best buddy cop movie ever made.

Day 63: Exporting Raymond

Directed By- Phil Rosenthal

Written By- Phil Rosenthal

Starring- Phil Rosenthal, Stanislav Duzhnikov, Anna Frolovtseva, Ray Romano

Critics Review- "What we get is a cultural standoff, and it's awkward, nonsensical and really funny."- Alison Gang "San Diego Union-Tribune"

Rotten Tomatoes Review- Critics- 71% Audience- 71%

Out a possible of 5 stars- 3 stars

My Review-

I have never watched the show Everybody Loves Raymond, and I never wanted too until now. In this documentary the creator of the hit show here in America, has to adapt it for a Russian audience and you can see where this might lead too. A culture clash; different types of humor and seeing things differently for a sitcom that was this big. In this film you can see how the creator clashes with the head writers and director who are trying to adapt his show without understanding the concept of the show itself, showing clips from the actual show and how it should be adapted and it is clearer shown that Russian has a different sense of humor. This worked well because we were able to see how another country saw what was and wasn't funny to them. After watching this documentary it makes me want to watch Everybody Love Raymond, which I never wanted to do before until now. I could see the utter frustration on the creators face as he would try to explain what is funny to us, and how to make it more believable for audience, which us as Americans would think was funny. Another reason why I liked this documentary was because we got to see how the Russians liked their comedy and how it differed from ours. Their's is over the top and crazy and ours is kind of toned down and not to crazy. So now because of this documentary I have decided to start this show to see how big of a deal it is because it other countries want it, then it must be funny. And if you liked the show then you will enjoy this documentary.

Day 62: Return of the Killer Tomatoes

Directed By- John De Bello

Writer(s)- John De Bello, Costa Dillon, Stephen Peace

Starring- George Clooney, John Astin, Anthony Starke, Karen Mistal

Critics Review- "Still more tomato gore from the ridiculous rolling tomatoes."- Steve Crum "Video-Reviewmaster.com"

Rotten Tomatoes Rating- Critics- 0% Audience- 42%

Out a possible of 5 stars- 3 stars

My Review-

The sequel to Attack of the Killer tomatoes, was actually better. This movie had was a spoof of itself, from having no money to finish it having to go into product placement to fund it, to admitting they were making a movie in the middle of it. This movie was also one of George Clooney's first films and he did a pretty good job. I really liked how it made fun of itself and spoofed different parts of the movie from this one and the first one. Some scenes were way over the top like it was supposed to be and it did not take itself to seriously like a B-movie should. One of the best characters in the movie was a deformed tomato named FT, short for Fuzzy Tomato who would later turn out to be the hero of the movie. I cannot see why this movie has not reached somewhat of a cult status yet since it is a good movie, and is meant to be over the top and not too serious and its movies like these that should be considered a time of hidden gem. Although Return of the Killer Tomatoes is not for everyone, if you are looking for a good laugh and a movie that will not take itself too seriously watch this movie I'am sure that you are going to enjoy it.

Critics Review- "Deliciously silly!'- Rich Cline "Shadows on the Wall"

Rotten Tomatoes Review- Critics- 27% Audience- 38%

My Review-

This movie was recommended to by a friend of mind, and I am glad that I chose to watch it. However the movie as all over the place and the best parts of the movie were when the tomatoes were killing people since it was so over the top. The tomatoes killing people came out of no where which made the movie one of the best B-movies I have seen in a while, along with the movie from yesterday. At times when they broke out of music it was hilarious since it came out of nowhere, at times I got very confused about the movie and did not know what the hell was going on, the only thing that interest me was the tomatoes, and how people dealt with them. One of the main songs in the movie that hurt the tomatoes was also pretty funny, I guess that I enjoyed this movie so much that I have chosen to watch the sequel tomorrow.
