Day 213: Lockout

Director(s)- James Mather, Stephen St. Leger

Writer(s)- Luc Besson, James Mather, Stephen St. Leger

Starring- Guy Pearce, Maggie Grace, Vincent Regan, Joseph Gilgun, Lennie James, Peter Stormare

Critics Review- "Whenever Guy Pearce's Snow is on screen, the film's fun, brainless, action flick with a main character that deserves a better movie."- Jeffery Lyles "Lyles' Movie Files"

Rotten Tomatoes Rating- Critics- 37% Audience- 40%

Out of a possible 5 stars- 2 stars

My Review-

This movie would have been really bad if it was not for Guy Pearce's acting. He was smart, funny, and an asshole, ironically his shirt said "Warning: Offensive" and it worked well because he was. Yes this movie was good at times but it was only when he was on screen, and also because of Joseph Gilgun from Misfits was in it as well. Gilgun was like a more psycho version of his character Rudy from the show. It was a good premise, but it just did not work, and the music that went along with it was just horrible. Basically what saved the movie was Guy Pearce and that was about it, I though Stormare being the badass he usually is would be one, but however he was not and I was disappointed. I'm actually glad I waited to get this on redbox instead of watching it in theaters I saved a lot of money by waiting.

Day 212: Cape Fear (1991)

Directed By- Martin Scorsese

Written By- Wesley Strick

Starring- Robert De Niro, Nick Nolte, Jessica Lange, Juliette Lewis, Joe Don Bakers, Robert Mitchum, Gregory Peck

Critics Review- "It's a brutal, demonic film with a grip like a vise; it grabs you early, its fingers around your throat, and never lets go."- Hal Hinson "Washington Post"

Rotten Tomatoes Rating- Critics- 76% Audience- 74%

Out of a possible 5 stars- 4 1/2 stars

My Review-

This is just one of the many collaborations between two Scorsese and De Niro, and without having seen the original version of this film yet, I quite liked this one. This one of those movies where the main character just scares the hell out of you and De Niro did just that with Max Cady a ruthless and ex convict who is after Nolte and his family. When the movie first starts it pulls you in with the music and the camera angles, and the different camera angles throughout the film keep this up to give us the feel of uneasiness because of always wondering as Cady watching from a far, and if he was ever just going to show up to surprise you. Even though for me this may have been an okay film from Scorsese I still enjoyed it and that was because this movie was all about De Niro and his acting and him taunting Nolte everywhere he went. I do not think this movie would have worked if De Niro had not been casted in the role, and since Scorsese and De Niro have worked before on several other movies it seems like Scorsese let De Niro do what mostly he wanted with his character. Now later on during the course of watching movies I will watch the orignal one so I can compare the two. This has to be only movie where I was actually creeped out by De Niro and I did not find him to be cool, or did I like his character. One of the problems I had with this film was Juliette Lewis' character I found her to be really annoying and I wanted to go and slap some sense into her, since she was making a lot of things worse then they already were. If you want to see one of the several collaborations with Scorsese and De Niro then watch this one since Robert De Niro does make most of the movie, minus the annoyance of Lewis.

Day 211: Made

Directed By- Jon Favreau

Written By- Jon Favreau

Starring- Vince Vaughn, Jon Favreau, Sean Combs, Peter Faulk, Faizon Love, David O'Hara, Famke Janssen, Vincent Pastore

Critics Review- "The script is nicely seasoned with jokes and surprise twists (right up to a contrived sentimental ending), and the two lead actors plunge into their roles with contagious enthusiasm"- Margaret A. McGurk "Cincinnati Enquirer"

Rotten Tomatoes Rating- Critics- 71% Audience- 65%

Out of a possible 5 stars- 3 1/2 stars

My Review-

For being Jon Favreau's directorial debut, he did not do so bad. This also his second movie that we had written in his career, the first being Swingers, which also starred Vaughn one of his friends. Out of most of the movies that Favreau has written which altogether is four films, I found this one to be one of my favorites from him because when watching this movie you do not expect to see what happens next with these two characters who are doing a job for a mafia boss played by Peter Faulk, which requires Favreau's character; Bobby to bring a long his irresponsible friend Ricky played by the always funny Vince Vaughn, and yes together their names are Ricky Bobby. This was more of drama with bits of comedy here and there, most of them were from naturally Vaughn and once in awhile with Fazion Love, these two actors were the scene stealer's of this film, and even though he had a some what small part Sean Combs did not do too bad in his first film role, I sort of thought it could have been played by someone else, but I guess it was him since he's like all the other hip hop artists who want to get into acting. One of the things that I had hoped that this movie would have was more comedy, since it was labeled a comedy/drama, when it was actually more of a drama with a ending you did not quite see coming. I did like the ending since it tied in with a few scenes from the beginning so I thought that it ended on a good note. This one of those movies to be seen by actors who have written movies, because Favreau does do a good job with all his characters even though some of them have small parts, they make the story move along a little better. One of the best scenes in my opinion is in the epilogue, since throughout the whole movie Favreau and Vaughn's characters are always bickering it works even better at the end of the film.

Day 210: Dark Storm

Directed By- Jason Bourque

Writer(s)- Sean Malcolm, Brett Schneider, Jason Bourque

Starring- Stephen Baldwin, William B. Davis, Rob La Belle, Keegan Connor Tracy

Critics Review- "Movie so bad no critics watched it"

Rotten Tomatoes Rating- Critics- No Percentage Audience- 15%

Out of a possible 5 stars- 1/2 star

My Review-

First, how can I take Stephen Baldwin seriously...he was in Bio-Dome, and secondly what the fuck am I watching? Yes I am writing my review as I am watching it, the movie is that bad. Stay far away from this movie. The acting was horrible, the effects, just everything in general. This has been one of the worst movies I have ever watched and I could not wait for it to be over.

Day 209: The Island

Directed By- Michael Bay

Writer(s)- Caspian Tredwell-Owen, Alex Kurtzman, Robert Orci

Starring- Ewan McGregor, Scarlett Johansson, Sean Bean, Djimon Hounsou, Michael Clarke Duncan, Steve Buscemi

Critics Review- " [Bays] best film since The Rock."- Kyle Smith  "New York Post"

Rotten Tomatoes Rating- Critics- 40%  Audience- 67%

Out of a possible 5 stars- 4 1/2 stars

My Review-

This has to be my favorite Michael Bay film since The Rock, so I agree with the critic above 100%. This was not too over the top like Bay's previous films which have been the Transformers trilogy, and it actually had a good story line. It had that Logan's run feel too it which I already watched for this list, especially with the ending I saw it had a sort of Logan's Run feel to it, which grabbed my attention even more once I started watching this movie. It has a lot of really good actors as well, and I did not know that Sean Bean was in the film, which made it even cooler once I saw his character come on screen. Like all of Bay's films this had a lot of action in it most of it over the top as always, however in this film I liked the action more in this one then some of his others. When it came time to reveal what "the island" really was I was in shock and then I felt bad for the people that lived there, (and I won't spoil anything for anyone if you have not seen this movie). I will say this, it is a great story from the two people from the people who would later write Star Trek and the Transformers films, I would like to see them write more films like this or close to this type since I can see now they can write more then just robots fighting. If you have not seen this film, I suggest you watch it since it was one of Michael Bay's better films. One thing I would have like to see more of was Djimon Hounsou, since I think he is a good actor and he can make any character he is likable even if he is the villain or in this case the bad/good guy. After watching this movie I noticed that Sean Bean can be play a bad guy well, sometimes better then the good guy. Like I said before this is worth the watch to see the Michael Bay can make more grounded films where the story is actually good and the actors are likable.

Day 208: Casa de Mi Padre

Directed By- Matt Piedmont

Written By- Andrew Steele

Starring- Will Ferrell, Gael Garcia Bernal, Diego Luna, Genesis Rodriguez, Pedro Armendariz, Jr., Nick Offerman, Efren Ramirez, Adrian Martinez

Critics Review- "...an over-extended SNL skit is exactly what the movie feels like, with chuckles instead of genuine laughs."- Jim Lane "Sacramento News & Review"

Rotten Tomatoes Rating- Critics- 45% Audience- 49%

Out of a possible 5 stars- 2 stars

My Review-

While this is not the funniest Will Ferrell movie I have ever seen, it is still pretty funny. However I did like Bernal and Luna in their roles they were what made the movie funny for me. Although when I first saw the trailer I thought I would be laughing throughout the whole movie, but I was only laughing here and there. It was a good effort on Ferrell's part but it did not do quite as well as I hoped it would. This is one movie you wait to come on television.

Day 207: Submarine

Directed By- Richard Ayoade

Written By- Richard Ayoade Based on the Book By- Joe Dunthorne

Starring- Noah Tyler, Paddy Considine, Craig Roberts, Yasmine Paige, Sally Hawkins

Critics Review- "That rare teen comedy where the kids aren't gorgeous, the hero isn't heroic and the object of desire has a lot of reasons why she isn't necessarily desirable"- Roger Moore "Orlando Sentinel"

Rotten Tomatoes Rating- Critics- 87% Audience- 80%

Out of a possible 5 stars- 4 1/2 stars

My Review-

For being a first time director, Richard Ayoade did a damn good job making this his debut film. This film is not really a normal teen comedy, as the review states in away it has average looking people portraying these characters, and the lead actress gives you many reasons why Oliver should not be with her, yet at the same time that is why he wants to and in away as watching this movie you start to see why Oliver likes her and you sort of start liking her as well. This movie is well shot as well many of the scenes stand out on their own and seem better then some of the shots before it. One of the best choices for Yasmine Paige's character was that she wore red for most of the movie, which made her stand out a lot more with the scenes that she was in. One of the reasons that I liked about this movie was the narration throughout the film by Oliver since it was from his perspective and how the movie was told in parts, which to me made it flow a lot more. At times the movie did move a little too slow, and I thought some characters did not need to be in it, because I felt they did not help move the film along. I would like to see more from Ayoade, to see what other movies he can direct this one of those people who comes out of nowhere that can direct a really good movie so I will keep my eye on him from now on. When I first saw the trailer I did not know that it would be like this I thought it would be something completely different. This is a coming of age story of a teenage in love and dealing with his parents marriage crisis, but in away its done so well by having average actors in it and not well known ones, which I thought was better for the film. This one of those films that is a rare gem that it seems like most people do not know about, and it should be watched for many different reasons; the acting, the shots, the story is really good and I would like to read the book to see how well adapted it was, and they way it was told in parts once again that was one of my favorite things about this movie, was how it was split up into four parts to help the movie flow. I Highly recommend this movie be watched, and it is something to add to your list of films to watch.

Day 206: Goon

Directed By- Michael Dowse

Writer(s)- Jay Baruchel, Evan Goldberg

Starring- Sean William Scott, Jay Baruchel, Liev Schreiber, Kim Coates, Allison Pill, Eugene Levy, Marc-Andre Grodin

Critics Review- "Goon is remarkably sweet, shockingly violent and incredibly enjoyable movie that ranks up there as one of the best hockey films ever made."- R.L. Shaffer "IGN DVD"

Rotten Tomatoes Rating- Critics- 83% Audience- 73%

Out of a possible 5 stars- 4 stars

My Review-

I have only seen a handful of hockey films, and this now this film is near the top next to "Miracle". This movie was well paced for being a hockey movie. Once it started the pace never really slowed down, only the scenes between Scott and Pill were slow paced because it need to be. I never really liked Sean-William Scott as an actor, most of the films he has been in he has annoyed me however in this one he was really likable. This movie did not have actor that you did not like the whole supporting cast helped the movie move a long well and made a contribution to it that made their roles memorable. One of the reasons why this movie was good, was because of the way the hockey scenes were filmed, at one point it was like they put a camera on the puck and you were able to follow it as they hit it on the ice. What this whole movie came down too were the fights during the hockey games which were some of my favorite parts because they were so violent and so well shot and it seemed like that is why the people went to go watch those games; for the blood, violence, and to see someone get their ass kicked. This is movie with a heart too it within and mainly between Scott and Pill, and Scott and Grodin. This movie was worth watching since it is very funny, and violent, well because it deals with hockey and mostly the fighting and the enjoyment that comes out of the fighting during the games. What really surprised me was that Jay Baruchel was one of the writers on this film, I liked how this showed that he can do more then act. I would like to see what else Jay Baruchel can write since he is a pretty good writer, even if his character was really annoying when he came on screen. I would like to own this movie, since it was really good only draw back was Baruchel's character I think he did not need to be so obnoxious and annoying. It was worth the watch and if you want to watch it's streaming on netflix and it is not too long and not too short it is just right. If you ever looking for a movie to watch, then check this out. Has memorable characters, some memorable scenes and all the characters can be well liked or have some of the best scenes, along with well shot hockey scenes and fights.

Day 205: Legend

Directed By- Ridley Scott

Written By- William Hjortsberg

Starring- Tom Cruise, Mia Sara, Tim Curry

Critics Review- "Ridley's misstep."- Victoria Alexander "FilmsInReview.com"

Rotten Tomatoes Rating- Critics- 50% Audience- 72%

Out of a possible 5 stars- 1/2 star

My Review-

Yeah, this has got to be Tom Cruise's worst movie. It was confusing at times and I had no idea what was going on at times. Not even Tim Curry could save this movie, and he didn't even provide the voice for his character.

Day 204: Back to School

Directed By- Alan Metter

Writer(s)- Harold Ramis, Steven Kampmann, Will Porter, Peter Torokvei

Starring- Rodney Dangerfield, Sally Kellerman, Burt Young, Keith Gordon, Robert Downey Jr., Ned Beatty, Sam Kinison

Critics Review- "Rodney Dangerfield's funniest film"- Jon Niccum "Lawrence Journal World"

Rotten Tomatoes Rating- Critics- 91% Audience- 61%

Out of a possible 5 stars- 3 stars

My Review-

This was probably one of the funniest movies I have seen with Rodney Dangerfield, even though it took awhile for it to start, I enjoyed more parts in the movie then I did others. What was really shocking was seeing RDJ in the movie when he was younger and he was even witty in this movie. Like most all movies there is one person that you cannot stand, however in this one they were all pretty much likable. This was worth watch since it was a classic 80s comedy with the music and most of the outfits. I like how it was streaming on netflix, made it easier to watch and and re-watch some funny parts, if you like Dangerfield then you will enjoy this movie, and if you want to see a young RDJ then you can in this one as well even if he is not in it a lot, he is still pretty funny.

Day 203: The People vs George Lucas

Directed By- Alexandre O. Philippe

Critics Review- "An outstanding look at the enormously dysfunctional relationship between a creator and his adoring fans."- R.L. Shaffer "IGN DVD"

Rotten Tomatoes Rating- Critics- 71% Audience 70%

Out of a possible 5 stars- 4 stars

My Review-

This a documentary that seems it was made by fans for the fans who have a love/hate relationship with George Lucas and his Star Wars films. When Star Wars first came out everyone fell in love with how it was made and what it looked liked, until he made some drastic changes in the re-release in 1997; one of them was having Greedo shoot first, this when the shit hit the fan. This is a documentary of how Lucas changed the lives of lot of people with Episode IV: A New Hope, then later on sort of betrayed his fans is how I took it after watching this documentary. We see how some fans have their own versions of Lucas' films and how they should be especially with Episode I, and how a lot of people were heartbroken about and their hatered for Jar Jar Binks and one of my favorite quotes from this documentary came from Simon Pegg when he said "Jar Jar Binks makes the Ewoks look like Shaft!" which his how people saw Jar Jar he was not necessary. I never knew that this many people had a love/hate relationship with Lucas and it was really interesting to hear their reasoning to why they do. Also what I found interesting is that Lucas at times contradicted himself through out his career on certain aspects on the preservation of certain films that made a cultural impact on society and one of them being Star Wars, and for some reason he changed a lot of it. This is worth the watch if you like the Star Wars films or just the original three too see what other people thing about them and so you can come to the conclusion your self if you have a love hate relationship with him.

Day 202: The Dark Knight Rises

Directed By- Christopher Nolan

Writer(s)- Christopher Nolan, Jonathan Nolan

Starring- Christian Bale, Morgan Freeman, Michael Cain, Gary Oldman, Tom Hardy, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Anne Hathaway, Marion Cotillard

Critics Review- "Christopher Nolan's dramatically and emotionally satisfying wrap-up to the Dark Knight trilogy adroitly avoids cliches and gleefully subverts your expectations at every turn."- Lou Lumenick "New York Post"

WARNING CONTAINS SOME MILD SPOILERS

My Review-

Before watching this movie, I had an idea in my head of how I would start off this review. However once the credits started to roll that all went out the window. This movie was everything I expected and more. This was a great way to end for Nolan to end is Batman series. First off lets start at where this all began.

Seven years ago we saw the release of a new Batman film; new actors and different take on the well known Batman story; it was darker, gritter, and changing the way we look at Batman forever. I will admit I am more scared of Christian Bale as Batman then any other actor that portrayed him before. We had never really seen a Batman film done this way before, it was also more emotional and showed us as an audience the motivation behind Bruce Wayne becoming Batman.

Then in 2008 came The Dark Knight, which is know widely considered to be possibly one of the best superhero films ever made. We saw what can happen if Batman was pushed to his limit, by man who just wanted to watch the world burn "The Joker" wonderfully acted by the late Heath Ledger. This showed us how the people Bruce loved the most were the ones that were going to get hurt and if you wanted to stand for something good and be that symbol, you would have to take the fall for someone else's actions, even though if though if those actions were someone who was going to be the symbol for what was good and right and what happened to a man who had been corrupted Harvey Dent who would be corrupted into Two-Face after losing everything. It should us that maybe Batman was needed right now and maybe when the time was right he would come back, and that time finally arrived.

This morning came out The Dark Knight Rises, the last Batman movie from Christoper Nolan bringing the end to his Batman trilogy, and like everyone I had to see it opening day even if it was at 3:30 in the morning, and man what a great way to end it this Trilogy. Like I said before it was everything I wanted and more, and  this time the villain was the one and only "Bane". A man who would test Bruce Wayne both physically and mentally, we wanted as he put it break his "soul". We also saw what everyone wanted to see he broke Batman's back during possibly one of the best fight sequences I have ever seen, complete silence, just both of them fighting hand to hand. Tom Hardy's portrayal of Bane was menacing (way more menacing then the Bane from Batman & Robin), and ruthless, he was also smart he had a reason for everyone move he made against Bruce Wayne and what he planned to do to Gotham. This movie takes place eight years after the events of the The Dark Knight and we see what it has been like with Batman missing. There are certain events that unfold, that make Bruce Wayne take up the cowl once more. which leads up the ultimate fight sequence which in my opinion is one of the best fight sequences I have ever seen, it was in complete silence, and all there was the sounds of Bane and Batman's grunting and punches landing. it was well shot and well done because it kept my heart pounding and me at the edge of my seat during the whole fight scene. This lead to what the movie was going to be about Bane taking over Gotham, along the way we see some pretty great cameo's from the first two movies. One of the best parts of this movie was all the scenes that were shot in IMAX, which was one of the only ways to watch this movie was in IMAX to experience how it was meant to be seeing. especially the last fight sequence. Now with the acting at first going into this movie I was 50/50 on Anne Hathaway being Selina Kyle but she was so good and it was different from what she normally does, another person I had no doubt was going to be really good was Joseph Gordon-Levitt as John Blake who turns out to be a character I will not mention. Some of the most emotional scenes were between Christian Bale and Michael Cain to the point where I was almost on the verge of tears. This by far one of the Best Batman films ever made, it was heart-pounding more emotional, had more engaged in the fight sequences. Lastly it was backed by Hans Zimmer's amazing score. I will truly miss this franchise since this the last one. In my opinion Christopher Nolan ended this on a good note. He did an amazing job telling his interpretation  of the Bruce Wayne story. This one movie not to be missed in theaters. I myself plan to watch this movie again.

Day 201: Bubba Ho-Tep

Directed By- Don Coscarelli

Written By- Don Coscarelli

Starring- Bruce Campbell, Ozzie Davis

Critics Review- "Often hilarious low-budget romp."- Eric Harrison "Houston Chronicle"

Rotten Tomatoes Rating- Critics- 78% Audience- 77%

Out of a possible 5 stars- 3 stars

My Review-

This was a rather interesting movie, I did like it, because of how the characters thought they were famous people that were dead; Elvis and JFK. It was a rather interesting plot as well, ancient mummy taking old peoples souls and it's up to these two to stop them. pretty cool idea and well acted by the late Ozzie Davis and always hilarious Bruce Campbell. It was kind of short, wanted it to be a little longer I did like they Campbell was though, kind of an asshole with a heart. I read their maybe a sequel but with a different person playing Elvis, I do not think anyone can top the way Campbell portrayed him; funny. sarcastic, did not give a damn with heart. I have always liked to see what Campbell does next and hopefully it something as funny as this as well.

Day 200: The Adventures of Pluto Nash

Directed By- Ron Underwood

Written By- Neil Cuthbert

Starring- Eddie Murphy,  Rosario Dawson, Jay Mohr, Pam Gier, Randy Quaird, Joe Pantoliano, Luis Guzman

Critics Review- "It's boring, It's flat. It's ugly. Worst of all for a comedy, it's not even remotely funny"- Christy Lemire "Associated Press"

Rotten Tomatoes Rating- Critics- 6% Audience- 19%

Out of a possible 5 stars- 1/2 star

My Review-

This is by far the worst movie I have ever watched, worse then any movie on this list, and that is saying a lot because I have seen some pretty bad movies on this list. The Room was better then this movie, and that was just bad all around. The only good part of this movie was John Cleese and Luis Guzman and even they couldn't save this movie.

Day 199: ¡Three Amigos!

Directed By- John Landis

Writer(s)- Lorne Michaels, Steve Martin, Randy Newman

Starring- Steve Martin, Chevy Chase, Martin Short, Alfonso Arau, John Lovitz, Phil Hartman, Joe Mantegna,

Critics Review- "charming silly fun."- Karina Montgomery "Cinerina"

Rotten Tomatoes Rating- Critics- 56%  Audience- 65%

Out of a possible 5 stars- 2 1/2 stars

My Review-

This was quite a funny movie, well because it had the perfect cast. I had always wanted to watch this movie, and never got around too it until not, and I enjoyed most of it and other times I felt a little bored watching it. Some of the highlights of the movie were when each actor were by themselves and not really acting with anyone else, because we were able too see their comedic timing. It could have been a little funnier, at times during the movie I did not find myself laughing as much, and I wish they would have showed more of Lovitz and Hartman during the beginning of the movie. It was also sort of heartfelt here and there due to the townspeople that they were helping. other than that it was just okay, just hoped it would have been funnier.

Day 198: Superman IV: The Quest for Peace

Directed By- Sidney J. Furie

Writer(s)- Lawrence Konner, Mark Rosenthal

Starring- Christopher Reeve, Gene Hackman, Jackie Cooper, Marc McClure, Jon Cryer, Sam Wanamaker, Mariel Hemmingway, Margot Kidder

Critics Review- "Avoid!"- Christopher Null "Filmcritic.com"

Rotten Tomatoes Rating- Critics- 10% Audience- 29%

Out of a possible 5 stars-  1/2 star

My Review-

This possibly one of the worst superhero movies ever made, next to the Schumacher Batman movies and possibly a few others. The first two Superman movies were really good, even though  I have never seen the third one and after watching this one I do not plan too anytime soon. I do not even know what to write about it anymore, it's cheesy, dialogue is horrible; especially from Jon Cryer his character was so pointless in this movie. and then Nuclear man with the same voice as Gene Hackman, got me thinking at Hackman really needed the money. Avoid this movie at all costs. I kept on waiting for this movie to be over and at times it seemed never ending.

Day 197: Seabiscuit

Directed By- Gary Ross

Written By- Gary Ross; Based on the Book "Seabiscuit: An American Legend" By Laura Hillenbrand

Starring- Jeff Bridges, Chris Cooper, Elizabeth Banks, Toby Maguire, William H. Macy

Critics Review- "A quite film. oftentimes silent for moments on end, in reflection of both tragedy and triumph."- Mark Sells "Film Threat"

Rotten Tomatoes Rating- Critics- 77% Audience- 74%

Out of a possible 5 stars- 4 1/2 stars

My Review-

This is the first movie I have seen about a race horse and it was not as boring as I thought it would be, well some parts did drag a bit and that was the only part I did not like about it. The race sequences were really well shot during the course of the film, and well acted by all the actors especially from Bridges and Cooper. That was one of the main reasons why I wanted to watch this film was because of these two actors and well because even though it was about a horse it still seemed really good and I was right. This was a story on how 3 people with nothing gained everything back with this horse, also what makes this movie worth watching is that it is set during the great depression and tells how everybody had to start a new life with almost nothing. At times Toby Maguire could be a little annoying in the film; he sounded kind of whinny and was kind of annoying. I can see why during that time that the horse and its jockey were an inspiration to everyone, since they were the underdog to everyone else. Even though it is a movie that is a little over two hours it is worth it for the performances and race sequences that were shot really well and made you seem at times that you were racing with the jockeys. I recommend this movie to be watched, even though like I said at times Toby can be really annoying but for me it seemed like Bridges and Cooper carried most of the film, and Elizabeth Banks was not too bad in this movie she also acted really well as Bridges second wife. around the time where all three main characters meet each other is where the movie really picks up, after that it is really good.

Day 196: Moonstruck

Directed By- Norman Jewison

Written By- John Patrick Shanley

Starring- Cher, Nicholas Cage, Olympia Dukakis, Vincent Gardenia, Danny Aiello

Critics Review- "Most of the show belongs to Cher and Cage, both of whom are at their energetic best."- Jonathan Rosenbaum "Chicago Reader"

Rotten Tomatoes Rating- Critics- 93% Audience- 76%

Out of a possible 5 stars- 3 stars

My Review-

Another movie where Nicolas Cage, can actually act which I'am still surprised at because lately he has not been doing so well. This the first movie I have actually seen Cher act in and I quite liked it. It was an interesting how all the characters did not know even though they were family did not know what was going on around them. This movie won two Oscars for Best Actress and Supporting and in my opinion they were well deserved for Cher and Dukakis. This movie was funny due to the supporting cast who would come in every now and then, most of this movie was about Cher and Cage and it was done well by both of them having fallen in love by accident. This brought Cage his first Golden Globe nomination and I was shocked on how good he was in this film, some parts may have been a little over the top but then it was toned down and done real well. This is worth the watch just for Cher and Cage because their chemistry is amazing, also the supporting cast helps the movie move along really well and sort of intertwine near the end. So if you ever want to watch check it out and see what you think.

Day 195: Dracula (1931)

Directed By- Tod Browning

Critics Review- " A classic despite numerous flaws."- Steve Biodrowski "ESplatter"

Rotten Tomatoes Rating- Critics- 93% Audience- 77%

Out of a possible 5 stars- 3 stars

My Review-

This movie was good, but I was all Bela Lugosi in the movie that made it good. I can see why it can be considered a classic, it was the first movie ever made on Dracula, and it should him for the monster that he was and all he wanted was one woman. The movie was really good when it was moved to england for a majority of the movie that is where it started to sea a little. Some parts were more entertaining then others, well others just slowed. I had hoped there was more dialogue and music because some parts were just silence. However overall I enjoyed most of it when thu were planning to get rid of Dracula, and when Lugosi would show up, since he made the movie more interesting through out it until the end I do recommend this movie since it is one of Universal's classic horror movie and maybe if I give it time it will grow one me.

My Review-

This is the second documentary that I have seen on horror movies, and this is by far the best one. I love horror movies, some of the old one and some new ones, and I really loved this documentary on the horror genre. It's the best one because it shows how horror movies evolved throughout the years until today. This documentary helped me realize how much horror films I still have not seen, and with so many out there I still have a long way to go. I liked how they had the top horror directors give commentary on what drove them to make the horror movie they're known for or what was going on during the time that their film was relevant. After watching this I can look at some horror movies differently and realize that during the time that they were made, they were made to reflect the times that they were in, or how they were able to express how people were feeling during that time. What this documentary also does is that it takes a look at why these movies appeal to us. Following this documentary it made me want to watch more horror movies, ones that I have not seen and the others I have seen already. It amazing to see how all the horror films mention in the documentary shaped our generations how we see things differently because of them, all horror movie fans should take a look at this documentary so you can enjoy it for what it is; in a way it is a love letter for all horror movies from the directors that made them. This is something that I can watch over and over again to see all the horror movies I have messed and too see how much they mean to the directors and creators of those stories. What also makes this documentary work is all the clips they use as examples for what they are explaining, with over 150 clips its done so well and how they movies effected the directors talking or what made them want to become filmmakers. If you love horror movies watch this, it is streaming on netflix and it is worth the watch.

Day 193: Disney's A Christmas Carol (2009)

Directed By- Robert Zemeckis

Written By- Robert Zemeckis; Based on the book By Charles Dickens

Starring- Jim Carrey, Gary Oldman, Robin Wright Penn, Colin Firth, Carey Elwes

Critics Review- "[It's] not something you should say bah humbug to."- Chris Bumbray "JoBlo's Movie Emporium"

Rotten Tomatoes Rating- Critics- 54% Audience- 72%

Out of a possible 5 stars- 2 1/2 stars

My Review-

We already know the story about Scrooge this is just another take on it, and a slightly better one. The animation was pretty cool, but as always I enjoyed the last ghost. but being able to hear and sort of see some of the coolest actors in the movie was pretty awesome. Also Carrey as most of the characters in the movie was good to see and he was able to do a wide range for this movie. Still thought it could have been a little shorter, most of the ghosts such as the first two were a little too long, I am actually glad I waited for DVD or when it came on cable to watch it.

Day 192: Man on a Ledge

Directed By- Asger Leth

Written By- Pablo F. Fenjves

Starring- Sam Worthington, Elizabeth Banks, Jamie Bell, Anthony Mackie, Edward Burns, Ed Harris, Genesis Rodriguez, Kyra Sedgwick

Critics Review- "Yep, there's a man on a ledge in it."- Grae Drake "Movies.com"

Rotten Tomatoes Rating- Critics- 31% Audience- 54%

My Review-

One thing, you know if that if you have someone named Genesis in your movie it will not be that good. That's the case with this movie. It is not too bad or too good, at times I could not understand Worthington and some of the acting seemed forced. I know that some of the most exciting parts were the crowded watching him trying to jump below and that is about it.

Day 191: The Motorcycle Diaries (Diarios de Motocicleta)

Directed By- Walter Salles

Written By- Jose Rivera; Based on the Book By- Che Guevara

Starring- Gael Garcia Bernal, Rodrigo de la Serna

Critics Review- "I think it is beautifully shot, and the chemistry between these two young actors is terrific."- Richard Roeper "Ebert & Roeper"

Rotten Tomatoes Rating- Critics- 84% Audience- 91%

Out of a possible 5 stars- 4 1/2 stars

My Review-

I have always wanted to watch this movie and it was also recommended to me by a friend of mine, and I am glad I chose this for my list. Even though I did not know a lot about Ernesto "Che" Guevara, before this film it helped me get a better understanding of him. This movie is both beautifully shot, and wonderfully acted by both Bernal, and Serna. At first I was thinking to myself that the movie did not need to be as along as it was, but by the end of it I realized if it was any shorter it would not have been as good because we need to see the road trip and all the people they met along the way that would changed both of their lives forever. This has been one of the only other movies I have seen with Bernal and this probably the best that he has done, since he is the main character and it is from his book, which I would like to read now. Also the acting from Rodrigo de la Serna and this being his debut he did a really amazing job, I wish I could have seen other movies from him to see how he did after this film. Some of my favorite parts of the movie is when it would show them riding on "The Mighty One", and how they would show the scenery of where they were traveling. However my favorite part of the movie was the last 30 mins when they went to San Pablo to help the patients, we see the impact that they made on those people and when they left at the end it was like they were losing a part of them as well. This movie is not only emotional with scenes of Guevara and Granado's journey but also at times would have a little comic relief when they would fall off of the "The Mighty One". Salles blended these two elements to tell the story of how this journey shaped Che to what he would eventually become. The last thing that drove this movie along was the subtle guitar music that would come in every now and then it was not too forced into the movie it was but in just right every other scene or just the important scenes. This movie was worth the watch and it is wonderfully acted by these two actors, if you have not seen it go and check it out its worth it. Yes it is a foreign movie with subtitles but that's what makes it also a good movie if it was told with out subtitles it would not have really worked. I am now looking forward to watching Che Part I and Part II too see how the rest of Che's life went before he died. So if you are looking for a good movie to watch, check this movie out.

Day 190: Hesher

Directed By- Spencer Susser

Writer(s)- Spencer Susser, David Michrod

Starring- Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Rainn Wilson, Natalie Portman, Devin Brochu

Critics Review- "Happily, Hesher never lays things out too clearly. Just as you never know where he came from, it's hard to grasp where he's going, or even what he's doing in the moment. But you know he fits somewhere. And that's satisfaction enough."- Tom Long "Detroit News"

Rotten Tomatoes Rating- Critics- 54% Audience- 61%

Out of a possible 5 stars- 3 1/2 stars

My Review-

This movie is not what I expected it to be, in a good way. When I first saw the trailer's for this film I thought it would be a comedy/drama, but I was completely wrong. This film is a straight out drama with a few laughs here and there and they are all from Gordon-Levitt, who is actually the one that drives this movie, well since he is the title character in the movie he does more then he supposed to at times. The whole movie was kind of depressing until Levitt's character came on screen and changed everything for the people he was living with. He made them see things differently. What made this movie work, was that Joseph Gordon-Levitt was so unpredictable in it and at times very intimidating, Rainn Wilson was also very different in the movie he is not like his character in the office he is the exact opposite, depressed and will not do anything and there is a reason behind that, and I will not give it away. This movie is worth the watch based on Levitt and Wilson's performances along. I recommend that you watch this to form your own opinion on it.

Day 189: The Flintstones in Viva Rock Vegas

Directed By- Brian Levant

Writer(s)- Deborah Kaplan, Harry Elfont, Jim Cash, Jack Epps Jr.

Starring- Mark Addy, Stephen Baldwin, Kristen Johnston, Jane Krakowski, Joan Collins, Thomas Gibson, Alan Cumming

Critics Review- "The Jokes are pathetic."- Michael Wilmington "Chicago Tribune"

Rotten Tomatoes Rating- Critics- 25% Audience- 28%

Out of of a possible 5 stars- 1/2 star

My Review-

I actually liked the first one, possibly because it was John Goodman, but hated how Rosie O' Donnell was Betty. In this one Jane Krakowski is better to look at even if this prequel was not needed. It was not funny, Stephen Baldwin was annoying and it needed to be shorter.

Day 188: The Twilight Saga: Eclipse

Directed By- David Slade

Written By- Melissa Rosenberg

Starring- Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattison, Taylor Lautner, Bryce Dallas Howard, Billy Burke, Dakota Fanning

Critics Review- "Poorly-acted, bland, overlong and thrill-less. It insults your intelligence from start to finish."- Avi Offer "NYC Movie Guru"

Rotten Tomatoes Rating- Critics- 49% Audience- 74%

Out of a possible 5 stars- 1/2 star

My Review-

Yes, I finally watched a Twilight movie on this list, and after watching it I'am kind of regretting it. Watching this with friends helped a little making fun of every little thing these characters did and still being able to understand what was going on did help. This time around Bella still cannot chose who to go with; wolfboy, or vampieboy and its not that hard, well for it took 3 movies, that were not needed. I will watch the last one in the theaters because I already told my friends I would even though I may talk crap about it the whole entire time. I am glad that these movies will be over with soon, and hope they will not get rebooted in the near future.

Day 187: Inside Deep Throat

Directed By- Fenton Bailey, Randy Barbato

Writer(s)- Fenton Bailey, Randy Barbato

Narrated By- Dennis Hopper

Critics Review- "Fascinating social criticism and a witty and relevant take on American sexual history."- Roger Moore "Orlando Sentinel"

Rotten Tomatoes Rating- Critics- 83% Audience- 60%

Out of a possible 5 stars- 4 1/2 stars

My Review-

This documentary is not just about the porn film Deep Throat, it is also about how people wanted to shut it down and were successful because they found it to be immoral and obscene. This also deals with the shift on sexuality in American and how some people did not like talking about and how it was a taboo topic, which in away is still a taboo topic today. It was interesting to see how people dealt with this subject back in the 70s, and the backlash they received for working on it. Since the government wanted to shut it down we were able to see that more people wanted to see it because we were told not to. The thing that makes this work is the interviews with the people that worked on the film and archive footage from the people that saw the film and the ones that wanted to stop it. What we also saw is how the film Deep Throat changed everything for the porno industry and possibly the movie industry without even knowing it at the time. What drove this documentary is how some people were 50/50 with that movie and how some saw it so bad that no one should have seen it, and how they did not want people making their own opinions about the movie. What we also learned is that the main actress Linda Lovelace was abused by her ex-husband her made her do the film and later in life was an advocate against porn and her film. It was a very interesting watch, because it was just not about a pornographic movie, it was about tackling sex as a subject and how it should be talked about and not just seen as a subject that should be left alone. I do recommend this documentary because we see what it was like in the 1970s for sexuality and how it was vastly changing whether some people liked it or not.

Day 186: The Amazing Spider-Man (2012)

Directed By- Marc Webb

Writer(s)- James Vanderbilt, Steve Kloves, Alvin Sargent; Based on "The Amazing Spider-Man by Stan Lee and Steve Ditko

Starring- Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone, Rhys Ifans, Martin Sheen, Sally Field, Denis Leary, Campbell Scott, Chris Zylka, Irrfan Khan

Critics Review- "This is a grittier webslinger saga, led by a Peter Parker with swagger and angst and a tone defined more by emotional resonance than wide-eyed wonder. It still has plenty of fizz."- Chris Vognar "Dallas Morning News"

Rotten Tomatoes Rating- Critics- 72% Audience- 84%

Out of a possible 5 stars- 4 1/2 stars

My Review-

It has been 5 years since Sam Raimi's Spider-Man 3, which was not that good to be honest. Now in 2012 we have a new take on the Peter Parker story, from director Marc Webb whose first feature film was (500) Days of Summer and for only his second feature film Marc Webb as promising career in directing movies. With this reboot things are different; there's no Mary Jane Watson, but Gwen Stacey, and character that most fans have been wanting to see for a long time since Raimi got it wrong in Spider-Man 3. The chemistry worked really between Garfield and Stone, and you could see on screen how much they were in to each other to begin with and that can work well in a movie.  Also in this reboot we got to see Peter's Parents for the first time and get some what of a reason of why he had to stay with his Aunt May and Uncle Ben, played wonderfully by Sally Field and Martin Sheen in my opinion were kind of better in this one, and they interacted more with each other in this film. Another thing we were looking forward to for a long time was the villain we were longing to see was Dr. Connors as The Lizard, and this was the lizard from the comics not the cartoon which a lot of people seemed to be mad at, in my opinion I liked this take on Lizard and how it was more from the comics rather then the cartoon and Rhys Ifans was great as Dr. Connors. With Andrew Garfield as Peter Parker/Spider-Man he did his own take on this well known character, he was more of a geek in this one and more of a smart-ass when he was in the costume, which I really liked. Also new movie means a whole new suit in this one it showed us the process of him trying to chose what material to use to make it and how he made his mask and everything which was cool. We also got a better reason to why Peter chose to become the hero that he was meant to be, first as a vigilante then as a hero, a process that he had to grow through when he was finally asked who he was. This movie was both funny, and had a little more dramatic elements; in this one Aunt May and Peter were able to grieve a little bit more after Ben had died, Sam Raimi really did not do that in the first one in 2002 version. Lastly Denis Leary as Captain Stacey, no one could have played this better then he did, he did what he did best somewhat of a smart-ass dad and it worked really well since he normaly does that in some films. There were elements that I really liked in Webb's take on this series and elements I really liked in Raimi's series, Both Raimi and Webb each set there own tone in their Spider-Man films; and each one had certain things that in away stood out more then other, with Webb one of the major differences were the web shooters that Peter made for this movie which  I liked. I am hoping that in this new take on Spider-Man Webb returns because I would like to see what he does next. However the only problem I had with the movie was the James Horner's score and I am hoping they get someone else to score the music because it seemed like the score did not fit to well with the movie, certain scenes were good with the music and other scenes it did not work. This is a new take on the Spider-Man saga and some people may like it, some people may hated it but its worth the watch, I will watch it again in 3D to see how it is since it was film in 3D, this worth the watch to see a new take on the web head to form your own opinion on it since it can go either way for some people.

Day 185: The Grey

Directed By- Joe Carnahan

Writer(s)- Joe Carnahan, Ian MacKenzie Jeffers

Starring- Liam Neeson, Frank Grillo, Dermot Mulroney, Dallas Roberts, Joe Anderson, James Bridge Dale, Nonso Anozie

Critics Review- "Every performance is a low-key, high-impact marvel in a movie that's true to it's ruthless self to the very end."- Maitland McDonagh "Film Journal International"

Rotten Tomatoes Rating- Critics- 79% Audience- 64%

Out of a possible 5 stars- 4 1/2 stars

WARNING: CONTAINS SPOILERS AHEAD

AVOID IF YOU HAVE NOT SEEN THIS MOVIE YET.

My Review-

Even though this movie was spoiled for me, I still wanted to watch since I first saw the trailer and this probably one of my favorite Liam Neeson movies. This movie is all about survival and and dealing with the harsh elements in the wilderness, and its done well. In a way this can also be some what of a horror movie with wolves that will stop at nothing in movie. This was also a good movie because they did not use a lot of well known actors, it seemed like they wanted the everyday man to be in this movie. For me what made this movie so good is that they made you invest into all the characters without knowing their fate during the course of the movie. I saw some of the characters that I wanted to survive die, and it sucked. The movie was also the right pace for what the survivors were going through. This movie was driven by all the actors in it and not just Neeson, and you were able to feel for all the of them and what they were going through. At first you would think a movie about men and werewolves would not be interesting or a watchable movie, but Carnahan did just that, he made the movie very interesting, and not that many people like the ending but I do because it left it up to us as an audience to figure out what Neeson's fate was because it could go either way. Another thing that made the movie for me was the music, it went perfect with the movie and helped move along with certain scenes sticking out more then others due to the music. I highly recommend this movie to be watched again if you have already seen it to watch it again.
