Day 121: POM Wonderful Presents: The Greatest Movie Ever Sold

Directed By- Morgan Spurlock

Critics Review- "A true original, in both concept and execution. Morgan Spurlock, wraps his hands around his idea, with energy, and pulls it off."- Robin Clifford "Reeling Reviews"

Rotten Tomatoes Rating- Critics- 73% Audience- 65%

Out of a possible 5 stars- 3 1/2 stars

My Review-

These days advertising is a huge thing in media. and Morgan Spurlock, funds his entire documentary on advertising the products that funded his film one of them being, POM Wonderful. He also interviews different people that work in the world of advertising to get a better understanding of how it works and how much it is used today. During the course of this film he also shows 30second commercials promoting the products that fund the film, since he has to; it's in his contract. Interviews from Directors also shed some light on how they had to deal with advertising when they were making movies, and how some directors refused to do so since it took away from the movie. One of the reasons why I liked this documentary is because it is showing us how much advertising is out there and how at times we really do not pay attention to it, when we should be. Also at the same time he is poking fun of it, which seems to be the whole point of this movie showing off as much advertising as he can, throughout the movie, like most of them do today. It was pretty cool to see how advertising and marketing works behind closed doors and how they show the people what they want to show them and also how they try to take out their competitors in the same product area. What is also interesting about this movie is the process that Morgan had to go through to get his movie funded and seeing his pitch meetings. I learned a lot from the documentary about the advertising world, and if you always wondered how it worked this is the documentary to watch, not to mention it is also funny which makes the movie more enjoyable then it already is. So I recommend that you see this movie if you want to learn more about the ad world.

Yeah this movie should have never been made. Shame on George Lucas! this movie was all kinds of bad from start to finish, it was too corny and stupid, I do not know why I chose to watch it. I am glad though it is over and done with and I will never have to watch it again.

Day 119: Animal Kingdom

Directed By- David Michod

Written By- David Michod

Starring- Ben Mendelsohn, Joel Edgerton, Guy Pearce, Luke Ford, Jacki Weaver, Sullivan Stapleton, James Frechville

Critics Review- "It's a remarkable film: gritty, gut-churning, thrillingly acted."- Amy Biancolli "Houston Chronicle"

Rotten Tomatoes Rating- Critics- 97% Audience- 80%

Out of a Possible 5 stars- 4 stars

My Review-

Even though this movie was a bit slow, and I will not spoil it about one of the actors, it was good movie. I did not even realize that the movie was 2 hours by the time it was over. The movie was really well acted especially by newcomer James Frechville, who was really good in his first film, however I did not like how when he did his narration in the film it was really soft and quiet, I had to turn up the volume in order to hear him. I have never seen Jacki Weaver act before, but she was really good in this film as the head of the family and I thought that she did deserve her nomination that she had received. It was pretty cool to hear Guy Pearce's accent again, cause we usually see him doing an american accent for his movies, the only problem that I had with the movie is that once again it was a little too slow for me, other than that some scenes in the movie had me left in shock that there was an actual family that was like that. These are some of the movies that catch my when they are either based on a true story or are inspired by actual people such as the ones in this film. Like with the review that I found some parts of the movie were gut-churning and it was really well acted, I just with that some of the actors had more screen time so we were able to see how good of a job they were able to do. If you have yet to see this movie, do so the acting is really good and so is the story. It will be worth the watch and time, even though it does not seem like it is a 2 hour movie.

Rotten Tomatoes Rating- Critics- 82% Audience-88%

My Review-

Out of all the documentaries that I have seen or that is on my list for this one of a day thing, this is my favorite one out of all of them. Every year when Comic-Con rolls around I only see what goes on from what they show on television or on the internet, Morgan Spurlock goes deeper into that. With interviews from almost all types of people that go to Comic-Con well everyone mentioned above we see a different kind of Comic-Con. The side we see is from the people that actually go every year for something different or for those who just want to be around people just like them and let out their Geeky side to a Stormtrooper or just a get chance to meet people like Stan Lee or Kevin Smith. This film also follows the journeys of six really interesting individuals and what they are letting their geek pride show, or just trying to make it in the comic book world. The film also has the the stories and expreiences from the people that we go to meet, ranging from seeing ninja turtles on the sidewalk to standing next to a stormtrooper and a klingon have a conversation and even themselves getting star struck when they see someone that they have always wanted to me was pretty cool to watch. If you are a comic book geek, have ever been to comic con, or want to go, this is the documentary for you. Its where for a few days you can meet people who come from all around the United States to be with other fans of comics, movies and toys and all just get along. Hearing all the cool stories and seeing all they different types of people that go to Comic-Con was amazing and makes me want to go even more then ever now, I believe that Spurlock made one of his best documentaries to date with this one. However this is in a limited release but you can watch it like I did with VOD, it is worth the money to watch this documentary and see some really cool stuff and the talent that some of these people have is just amazing. Harry Knowles says in the documentary, "This is mecca and what that means to these to these sorts of geeks people like me this is a place where you go and your probably very normal." This is a documentary for geeks and non geeks a like, and if your not a geek maybe this will make you one.

Day 117: Lars and the Real Girl

Directed By- Craig Gillespie

Written By- Nancy Oliver

Starring- Ryan Gosling, Emily Mortimer, Paul Schneider, Kelli Garner, Patricia Clarkson

Critics Review- "A truly warm and wonderful film that works by using simpler storytelling to explore very deep human emotions."- Edward Douglas "comingsoon.net"

Rotten Tomatoes Rating- Critics- 81% Audience- 83%

Out of a possible 5 stars- 4 1/2 stars

My Review-

Once again Ryan Gosling as proven that he is one of the best actors of his generation. It's still hard to believe he was in Remember the Titans. I have wanted to see this movie since watching the trailer in 2007, still find it hard to believe that it took me this long to watch it, maybe it was worth the wait, I am not too sure. This movie does a seem a bit strange at first but as it progresses you find yourself liking each character more and more, especially Lars' doll Bianca. Gosling does such an amazing job that as viewer you begin to see Bianca as Lars sees her as a real person and much like the towns people you begin enjoying seeing her, and wanting to talk to her. This movie is slow paced but it does so for a reason, it is like we are taking a journey with Lars from when he meets her to the end. And a long the way we meet different people that were effected by the doll Bianca. Each character that was in this movie had there share of the movie and were able to make the movie flow even better than it already was. Yes it was sad and it was also funny, and I agree with the critic above and that it helped explore the human emotions, and saying that no matter what anyone can fall in love. Even if it is with a doll, this movie was emotionally heartbreaking in some scenes and its all due to Gosling's performance that was worthy of his Golden Globe nomination. I am still surprised that he has not won an Academy Award yet. If you have not seen this movie, I highly recommend that you do so. It is worth the watch, and too see really good acting by all of the actors in this low budget indie film.

Day 116: Conan O'Brien Can't Stop

Directed By- Rodman Flender

Starring- Conan O'Brien, Andy Richter, Jimmy Vivino, Scott Healy, Mike Merrit, James Wormworth, Jerry Vivino, Mark Pender, Richie Rosenberg

Critics Review- "Just as he promised, amazing things happen."- Ian Buckwalter "NPR"

Rotten Tomatoes Rating- Critics- 79% Audience- 68%

Out of a possible 5 stars- 4 Stars

My Review-

I have never really watched Conan O'Brien in the past, but when I found out what NBC had done to him, I was a little mad too. The only thing I knew about O'Brien is that he had written Simpsons episodes, and some of the best ones at that. However this is not about his Simpson days, this is about what happened after he left NBC, and the comedy tour that he did before he started at TBS. In this documentary it seems like we see a very different side to O'Brien, a side that fans probably normally have not seen of him, and people who just know about him. As I kept watching this documentary I found myself liking him more and more, as I saw him for a what he was like, a man trying to keep a living and someone who LOVES his fans, and also treats his staff like shit just to mess with them, when he really loves them. Well the film had many cameos did not stray to much from what it was trying to show us. That he was doing a comedy tour because he had almost nothing to do, because NBC gave him so many restrictions. We see that he does love his fans, and his fans love him, he sold-out Radio City Musical hall in about 15 mins and need to add another show. That many people supported him. We also got to see him and Andy Richter reunited after a few years, and seeing Andy Richter again was pretty damn cool. We also go to learn about his assistant Sona, who was took most of the heat from him since she was always near him, but she took it in stride and played along, because we see that she enjoys working for him. We also see the sort of toll that the tour was taking on him, since he was doing 42 shows and some of them were two back to back, it will be tiring and straining. After watching this I like him even more then from what I saw in the interviews on 60 minutes or on some other news stations, and I will try to watch more of his talk show since, he does seem like one of the nicest people in the world and is a genuine person who can get angry at losing a dream job, or just trying to put on an amazing show for this fans. Now that I have seen this movie I have more respect for this man, and I would love to meet him...Go Team COCO!

Day 115: Little Shop of Horrors (1960)

Directed By- Roger Corman

Rotten Tomatoes Rating- Critics- 91% Audience- 53%

My Review-

Time for the original version of the musical that I reviewed a few days ago, and this one differs from the last one, in a few ways. I found myself liking the musical version a lot better than this one, maybe because it was funnier, and had a faster pace then this one did, and it have a better ending then this one. With this one I was not able to find a character that I liked like I did with the musical. I did enjoy Jack Nicholson's cameo, he was possibly the best part of this movie, along with the plant who should have had a bigger part in my opinion.

Day 114: Mean Girls

Directed By- Mark Waters

Written By- Tina Fey

Critics Review- "It's good for some laughs. And that's all it intends to be."- Tom Long "Detroit News"

Rotten Tomatoes Rating- Critics- 83% Audience- 66%

My Review-

So now that I have finally seen this movie, I enjoyed it way more then the movie I watched yesterday. Also now I understand the jokes that everyone kept saying, such as "You go Glen Coco"! And I have to say this is one movie that I am surprised that I missed and it has been out for such a long time too. I was surprised at Lohan's acting since this was years before she started to go downhill and not be that good of an actor anymore, its kind of sad to see how much potential she had in this film to be a good actress, but made poor choices. Another reason why I enjoyed this movie is because it was filled with SNL alum, and written by the one and only Tina Fey, who also starred in the movie, in a small but funny role. Even the minor characters in the movie had their time to shine in the film and were to me given the equal amount of memorable one liners and quotes that will not be forgotten. One of my favorite characters was Damien whose famous quotes were "You go Glen Coco" or "She doesn't even go here"! At first I did not know what all the fuss was about this movie, and now that I do I can see why so many people quote it or keep watching it numerous times, and I am actually looking forward to buying it one of these days.

Yeah, this was a really bad movie, I think it should have just stayed as one of those movies that should not have been adapted from a TV show, it made me miss the movie I watched the day before, because it was so fucking awesome! but this movie was not, it was far from it.

Day 112: The Cabin in the Woods

Directed By- Drew Goddard

Written By- Joss Whedon, Drew Goddard

Starring- Chris Hemsworth, Kristen Connolly, Anna Hutchison, Fran Kranz, Jesse Williams, Richard Jenkins, Bradley Whitford

Critics Review- "The finest horror comedy in years, The Cabin in the Woods is a potent, hilarious apology for decades of generic horror fare."- Shaun Munro "What Culture"

Rotten Tomatoes Rating- Critics- 92% Audience- 84%

Out a possible 5 Stars- 5 stars

My Review-

I have no idea, where to began with this movie. It was amazing on so many levels. Well for one it was co-written by the and only Joss Whedon, which was the main reason why I wanted to watch this film in the first place. This is not your normal horror movie, as one critic said it's a "game changer", and we may never see one like it again. Which I'am glad for because this movie should be one of a kind, and go down as one day being a classic that people will keep talking about. This is everything that I wanted in a horror movie; gore, comedy suspense. Even though it not seem like a horror movie at times, it was so worth the watch and the long ass wait for it to be released. This is a movie that even non horror fans will enjoy because of the story and the twist ending. I do not want to give much away about this movie, because it should be seeing. Lets face it Joss Whedon helped write and producer this movie. So if you are a fan of his work you will enjoy this movie like all his other work. Yes it also had at the comedy in it and it worked really well, because at times you forgot that it was a supposed to be a horror/suspense film, which was why I really enjoyed it, and well because it was from Whedon who gave us such great things like; Buffy, Firefly, Serenity and now this and The Avengers, this man cannot get any cooler. To me he should write more stuff like this a horror movie that can also be a comedy. If you like movies like this or are Joss Whedon fan, you are in for a treat because this movie IS one of a kind, and it will not disappoint, I loved it and it was worth the 3 year long wait for this movie to be released, and it will go to the top of my horror film list. I do want to see this movie again, and I do believe I will enjoy it even more the second time. This movie was just, omg. I still cannot stop thinking about it. Just go watch it and enjoy it.

Critics Review- "The late-eighties TV series is rebooted with jolts of sentiment, personal discovery, and wild comedy."- Richard Brody "New Yorker"

Rotten Tomatoes Rating- Critics- 85% Audience- 90%

My Review-

Having never really watched the original television show, which this movie is based on I really had no bad ideas going into it. I wanted to watch this show since the first preview that I had seen. After seeing this movie it did not disappoint me in any way, everyone was funny within their characters and they did not over do it either. The main person I was surprise at was Channing Tatum, who at first I did not think could do much comedy, since he mostly does romantic movies. After this movie he should do more comedy, because he is a very funny person. I liked how Johnny Depp went and did a cameo for the show that made him famous. If you have not seen the movie I will not reveal what his cameo is. Jonah Hill is a good writer, in his first story and screenplay it was very funny, and I think he should write some more. I would like to see what he has to offer in the near future or sooner if he is already writing something else. The movie hinted a sequel, which I hope gets made, a will be as funny or funnier then this one, because it was just the right amount of raunchy comedy. Even though Ice Cube had a some what small part as well, he did a better job in this comedy then some of the other ones that he came out with in the last couple years. If a sequel is made, I will gladly see it in theaters. This time a lot sooner.

My Review-

I had never really watched this movie all the way through, I wanted to watch the whole thing and the rest of them because I would like to watch the new one that is coming out in the next couple months. This movie as good, but not as good as I hoped it would be, probably because I never really played the game when it was out or anytime after the movie was released. One thing that I was bummed out about is that some of my favorite characters had died in the movie, and I was a little upset about that, even for the year being 2000, some of the CG was pretty iffy and thought it could have been a little better than it was. Some of the acting was better in certain scenes than it was in others, and it other times it was like wow, that could have been a lot better. This review is kind of hard to write since a movie that I've already reviewed is playing in the background, and that movie is The Room, because my friends are watching it and they have never seen it before, actually that movie has shed some light on this one, this movie right here Resident Evil is WAY better than the other one. I should star with the star of the film, Jovovich she was pretty damn awesome in this movie, she kicked ass in this movie, almost more than the 'Fifth Element'. another thing about this movie is that I thought that it could have been just a wee bit longer, than it already was. I like how this movie had Michelle Rodriguez, pre The Fast and The Furious series, which was pretty cool. I am looking forward now to watching the rest of the series.

My Review-

I have always been a fan of the batman cartoon, but really did not watch this show, maybe off and on. This was probably one of the more batman cartoon films that had an amazing twist. What still makes this film as good as it is, was the voice acting. All the original voices from the cartoon that I grew up loving which I really liked. Plus it was The Joker how could you go wrong with that? If you have not seen this particular Batman film from the cartoon series I won't say anything to spoil it for you dear reader. Or whoever is reading this. I have always liked the original batman cartoon, and I loved how they revisited the original series, even if it was for only about 5 minutes. This actually wants me to start the cartoon all over again, from the beginning, since I do not quite remember what happens. It would be good to refresh my memory on this cartoon. this is a good watch to the batman cartoon series if you grew up watching it. If you enjoyed any of the old school cartoon series' Batman the animated series, or this one Batman Beyond, you will enjoy this movie.

Day 107: The Help

Directed By- Tate Taylor

Written By- Tate Taylor; based on the book by- Kathryn Stockett

Starring- Emma Stone, Viola Davis, Bryce Dallas-Howard, Octavia Spencer, Jessica Chastain, Allison Janney

Critics Review- "I was drawn into the characters and quite moved, even though all the while I was aware it was a feel-good fable, a story that deals with pain but doesn't care to be that painful."- Roger Ebert "Chicago Sun-Times"

Rotten Tomatoes Rating- Critics- 76% Audience- 90%

Out a possible 5 stars- 5 stars
My Review-

I first I did not want to watch this movie, but I am glad that I did watch it finally. The acting was amazing in this film by everyone. One of the actresses that surprised me in this film was Bryce Dallas-Howard and her performance, I was surprised how cruel she could be in a film. I guess it's because I had never seen her act like that before, now that awards season has been long over, I was a little shocked that she did not get a nomination for her role, which he should have gotten one. The story itself was really good as well, at first I thought that Stone would be the main character, I was wrong it was Viola Davis. I have only seen a few films with Viola Davis, but none with this kind of acting. Another person I liked in the film was Jessica Chastain, who did amazing job and was worthy of her Oscar nomination at this years Oscars. I liked the story of this movie, since like the movie itself this kind was by really shown before. At times the movie did drag a little but then automatically picked up. At times I really don't like movies like this, for some odd reason, but the acting in this film changed that for me. The only part that was gross, or that I did not like about this film was the pie scene. Even though I understood why it was done, it was still gross. This movie had me angry, laughing and a little emotional and this movie was amazing, I do not why I doubted this movie, I should not have in the first place. I highly recommend this movie to watch.

My Review-

This possibly my new favorite musical, after a few others that I really like. So it's more like in the top 5 now. It had the type of music I am starting to like now which is Doo-Wop, and had some people that I did not know could sing which was pretty cool, this movie had me since the first song came on. Everything about this musical was pretty cool, the cheesy songs or acting at times, the actors who had small by memorable roles, and the plant "Audrey II" was a Funny character on itself. Who kind of sounded like Oggie Boogie from the movie "A Nightmare Before Christmas". The only really problem I had with this movie is that I wished it was longer. So that it would be more enjoyable then it already was, other than that I really liked it. The music was really awesome and not I want to buy the soundtrack for the movie so I can listen to it all the time.. And now hopefully own it on blu ray if it ever does come out for blu ray., if you have not seen this movie but like musicals, watch this one it will be well worth it. And it's got cameos from; Bill Murray, John Candy, Steve Martin and a few others. You can't go wrong with that.

Day 104: Man on the Moon

Directed By- Milos Foreman

Writer(s)- Scott Alexander, Larry Karaszewki

Starring- Jim Carrey, Danny DeVito, Courtney Love, Paul Giamatti

Critics Review- "The crowning performance of Jim Carrey's career."- James Beradinelli "ReelViews"

Rotten Tomatoes Rating- Critics- 62 % Audience- 74%

Out a possible 5 stars- 3 1/2 stars

My Review-

Well this was a good movie on a well known comedian of this time, in a way this is Carrey's second crowning performance, next to The Truman Show. Well I never really new what the real Kaufman was like or how he was when he did his type of comedy, Jim Carrey did a good job playing a real person that most likely influenced his career to be a comedian. After the movie was over, I went to YouTube to find clips of Kaufman that were recreated for the film, and after seeing those clips, I saw that Carrey in fact did a good job of portraying Kaufman. With this film they even got some of the original actors from the show Taxi to play themselves which I thought was pretty cool. In my opinion Jim Carrey needs to do more drama movies, because it can show that he can do more than just a comedy and act like a idiot. I like when comedians can show they can also do drama films such as this one. Once again one of the actors that were good in this movie was Paul Giamatti, even in a supporting role such as this one he can pull you in a like his character even though he is not on screen for the whole entire movie, another surprise from this movie was Courtney Love, who is known for being a little bit crazy is actually a good actress when she wants to be. However I did think this movie was a little to long for being a biopic, but that's just me. I found myself laughing and feeling the emotional scenes, because it did seem like Kaufman did have a hard life towards the end of his time. Jim Carrey seem to embody his protrayal for Kaufman which was called chameleonic performance, which will go down for me as one of his 2nd best films when he started to do more dramatic roles. Jim Carrey will be known for doing his comedy roles, but he should also be known for being able to make us laugh and cry at the same time, he needs to more roles like this one instead of the movies that bomb, such as Mr. Poppers Penguins. I believe that if Jim Carrey wanted too he can do a role so dramatic and moving it can earn him an Oscar Nomination. He just as to pick the right role, and he got close twice. with this movie. If you do not know who Andy Kaufman was or want to see Jim Carrey in a movie that most people probably do not know about watch this one, it will be worth it.

Critics Review- "What we see is explosive, deeply moving and impossible to shake."- Peter Travers "Rolling Stone"

Rotten Tomatoes Rating- Critics- 96% Audience- 87%

Out of a possible 5 Stars- 5 Stars

My Review-

This was a nice change from that horrid movie that I watched yesterday. This was a really eye opening documentary about the war, that the news does not usually show us, or for that matter cannot show us. This film, documents one year of a platoon in one of the most dangerous parts of Afghanistan, the Korangal Valley. The film is interesting because it deals with all the soldiers equally from when they get there until they leave a year later. The film is named after a fallen soldier in the 2nd Platoon Battle Company. This film does not edit out all the danger, well maybe they had to leave some in the editing room, since it was a year of filming. But what they showed as just as scary and heart wrenching because, you still cannot believe that this happened not too long ago. It shows what they do on their down time, from dancing like there's no tomorrow, or just pure boredom, Then all of a sudden they're fighting for their lives. During their deployment the directors captured one of the Platoon's dangerous mission in the Valley what they called  "Operation Rock Avalanche", where it captured the fighting the loss of one of their brother in arms, and the aftermath and emotional toll it took on some of them. This is one of the most powerful War documentaries I have seen since, Brothers at War. It is hard to believe that this did not win the Oscar for Best Documentary, which it should have since people do not know what really happened over there, aside from that we saw on TV and read in the newspaper.Yes this documentary is kind of depressing but it is also funny at the same time. If you have not seen this movie watch it. It needs to be watched to see what the soldiers went through and why they are so different when they return home. To me this movie won the Oscar, because it was that good and eye opening.

Day 101: Nowhere Boy

Directed By- Sam Taylor-Wood

Written By- Matt Greenhalgh

Starring- Aaron Johnson, Thomas Sangster, Kristin Scott Thomas, Anne-Marie Duff

Critics Review- "Although he doesn't look much like Lennon, Johnson captures that essence perfectly; the future icon is here a confused, hurt boy." Bill Goodykoontz "Arizona Republic"

Rotten Tomatoes Rating- Critics- 79% Audience- 72%

Out a possible 5 stars- 4 stars

My Review-

The Beatles, possibly one of the most influential bands of the 1960s and onward. This is the story of part of their beginning and the man that started it. John Lennon. Well I did not know too much on John Lennon's up bringing and why he chose to go into music, like I should have already knew, this movie helped out quite a bit. I will admit I am listening to The Beatles while I am typing this up. This movie sort of a education on the life of John Lennon, and after watching it I never knew that he had such a hard life, and most of it was probably shown through his music, that he would do with The Beatles, and his solo career after that. The only other movie I had seen the main actor in (Aaron Johnson), was Kick-Ass, and even though for a comedy I thought he was a good actor. However this movie was like whoa, he can really act and has a pretty good future if he keeps on picking the right movies. The only problem I had with the movie is that I could have been a little bit longer, and more of a story line with Lennon, McCartney, and Harrison. I was interested in this movie from the start, because it was about Lennon and he started The Quarrymen who would eventually become The Beatles. It was interesting to see how Lennon grew up in London from the time he was in high school until he was in the band, to see the relationship between him and his mother and his aunt, who mostly took care of him his whole life, after his mother wouldn't. Then to see his relationship with his mother when he found her and up until her death. This was the story about him I did not know about until now. This is a movie that fans of The Beatles or John Lennon should see, to have a better understanding of his upbringing, and for the most part how it made him the person he was. And after watching this movie it will put you in The Beatles listening mood, like I am doing right now.

Day 100: Religulous

Directed By- Larry Charles

Starring- Bill Maher

Critics Rating- "This movie is about Bill Maher's opinion of religion. He's very smart, quick and funny, and I found the movie entertaining, although sometimes he's a little mean to his targets."- Roger Ebert "Chicago Sun-Times"

Rotten Tomatoes Rating- Critics Rating- 70% Audience- 78%

Out a possible 5 stars- 4 stars

My Review-

There are many different religions that all in way believe the same thing, that there is a god, Bill Maher is just trying to get a better understanding of it. Well at times he can make fun of the religions, because he does not understand why we believe in what we believe. It is interesting to see someone else's perspective on religion, even one who lost faith or stopped going to church at a young age. He interviews many people of different religions, or are hardcore religious people and asks them questions about the bible to see if he can get a straight answer out of them, and at the same time making fun of it or still make his own assumptions about the religion or what the bible says. When he does this he gets kicked out of the Vatican in Rome, and says what is on his mind with out getting an interview, and even gets kicked out of the yard of a Mormon church, he is pissing off people, and loving it because he is getting his point across. He even visits a place called "The Holy Land Experience", basically sort of a theme exhibit, and a museum about Jesus. This was quite an interesting documentary, because you heard the different views on the bible from different people who interpreted the bible differently. One of the more interesting religions to learn about was Mormonism, where the only knowledge I got from it at first was South Park, here we kind of get a better understanding of the religion. We also take a look at Jose Miranda who has 100,000 followers worldwide, who think he is "Jesus Christ". He believes that he is the second coming of Christ. This one was kind of weird that tons of people believe that he is the second coming, with him I believe it is a load of shit. I heard about him on the news before. This documentary was really interesting because as a viewer I got to see different peoples beliefs in the same exact religion that I have but, I still have some different views, that they would not like. The end of the movie was what also caught my eye of how the editing was done, was really fucking cool. Now I do recommend this movie if you want to learn about different religions or more about how people interpret the Bible differently from other people.  It is a very interesting watch for people who want to watch it, and Bill Maher is the perfect person for this documentary, because he is the type that speaks his mind and at times does not care what people think.

Day 99: Cast Away

Directed By- Robert Zemeckis

Written By- William Broyles, Jr.

Starring- Tom Hanks, Helen Hunt

Critics Review- "it's not just a movie-- it's an experience."- Susan Granger "rec.arts.movies.reviews"

Rotten Tomatoes Rating- Critics- 90% Audience-80%

Out a possible 5 Stars- 4 1/2 stars

My Review-

There are some movies to me show how amazing of an actor that Tom Hanks is, and for me they are some of his live action films. Do not get me wrong he is really Awesome in the Toy Story Franchise, but his films where you can see him act are the ones where you can really see him show his emotional side, or his angry side. For me it was 3 films, Forrest Gump, Saving Private Ryan, and my favorite Tom Hanks film ever, Philadelphia. Now I can add one more movie to that list, this one. This movie showed how he did not need any other actors to bounce off on, just plain and simple him on an island, to show what it is like for a man alone of four long years, and how it can take its toll on someone who is thrown into that element. This movie would have worked better if it just started off with him going onto the island, but that's just me. Even I do not like Helen Hunt as an actress I thought she did a pretty good job in the movie, even though if she was in it less than 15 mins. This whole movie feels like it was written for Tom Hanks, and no one else. with little to no music, showing him in isolation where his only friend is a volleyball; ironically named 'Wilson', shows how far someone will go just to have someone to talk too. this movie was a little too long, but if it was too short it would not have been as moving or emotional as it was, it would have fallen short of what it was trying to do, tell a man's story of survival. I do wish I had watched this movie soon, because I feel like I had missed out one of Tom Hanks' best performances in the last 10 years, since that was the last time he got nominated for Best Actor. Tom Hanks deserves more roles where he can show off his acting ability to its full potential and this was one of them, I just hope we can see more of in sooner.

Day 98: Hubble

Directed By- Toni Myers

Written By- Toni Myers

Narrator By- Leonardo DiCaprio

Critics Review- "Hubble is a wonderful machine, and this is a phenomenal movie."- Gary Wolcott "Tri-City Herald"

Rotten Tomatoes Rating- Critics- 89% Audience- 87%

Out a possible 5 stars- 4 stars

My Review-

Don't get me wrong this is an amazing movie, but it should have been longer than the actual run time. Being only 40 mins I thought it should have been longer so we could have seen them prepare for the mission more then we did. Learning more than I did in middle school or High school about Space, this was what made the movie interesting is that it would teach us about space at the same time has it showed the Hubble telescope being repaired for one last time. showing the astronauts repair the telescope even more interesting. I just regret not watching it when it came out in theaters. If you like Space and everything about all the stuff, watch this movie it is very interesting to watch and possibly learn more.

Day 97: Warrior

Directed By- Gavin O' Connor

Writer(s)- Gavin O' Connor, Cliff Dorfman, Anthony Tambakis

Starring- Joel Edgerton, Tom Hardy, Jennifer Morrison, Frank Grillo, Nick Nolte

Critics Review- "Warrior is an epic, beautiful film, a must see!"- Julian Roman "Movieweb"

Rotten Tomatoes Rating- Critics- 83% Audience- 92%

Out a possible 5 Stars- 4 1/2 stars

My Review-

This possibly one of the greatest sports movies of the new decade, and not that many of come out, but this one will go down as one of the greatest. Each performance in this movie was unbelievable, from Nolte to Morrison. The most suprising was from Hardy and Nolte, their scenes together were amazing seeing Nolte back to form as an amazing actor, and Hardy a major difference from Inception to this film. This movie makes me want to see him has Bane even more then I wanted to do before. This is more than a sports movie, it is a movie about family, it is a movie about fighting for something or you lose everything. This movie must have gone unnoticed or something because it deserved more than the Best Supporting Actor Nomination for Nolte, which was well deserved. It should have gotten nominated for Best Picture, is is that good. I went to watching this movie just seeing two brothers fight in the final round of a major competition, but it became more than that as the movie progressed and you saw that they both had something to prove. Even the fight scenes were intense and at times made me cringe on how hard they were getting hit or thrown to the ground. This is a movie that should be watched to see all the amazing performances. I had never really seeing Joel Edgerton act, but he is one that is making a name for himself in every movie that he does. And he certainly made an impression on me in this movie. Tom Hardy showed a different side of his acting that was way different then him in Black Hawk Down, or his movie Inception. As I said before this movie is more than a sports movie, it is also an emotional one, Nick Nolte possibly gives one of the best performances of his career and maybe should have won that Oscar, but also this movie missed out on the crowning nomination of Best Picture. It deserves to be up in that category because it deserves it. The only problem that I had with this movie was that I was hoping it would go more into the back story of the brothers and their alcoholic dad. What made the movie even more emotional was the song that was chosen to be played towards the end of the movie, the song is just powerful. I will admit I did find myself getting teary eyed and emotional during the last 15 mins of the film, it was well worth it. This movie is a must see and I regret not watching it in theaters but glad that I chose it to be on my list.

Day 96: American Wedding

Directed By- Jesse Dylan

Written By- Adam Herz

Starring- Jason Biggs, Alyson Hannigan, Thomas Ian Nicholas, Eddie Kaye Thomas, Seann William Scott, Fred Willard, Eugene Levy, Jennifer Coolidge, January Jones

Critics Review- "Jim and Michelle may be the ones getting married, but American Wedding belongs to Stifler."- Bob Strauss "Los Angeles Daily News"

Rotten Tomatoes Rating- Critics- 55% Audience- 72%

Out a possible 5 stars- 3 1/2 stars

My Review-

I wanted to watch this movie, to get ready for the new one that is about to be released. Funny thing is that I am watching them all our of order, and I still have to watch the first one. without knowing to much about these characters without watching the first one they were really enjoyable. This movie had me laughing the whole time, and I like comedies like this one, that are raunchy and deal with situations that would not normally happen. This movie is the 3rd movie of the series and out of the two that I have seen so far it maybe the funniest one, but that will be officially decided at a later date. The person that made it as funny as it was, was no other then Seann William Scott as his possibly most well known character Stifler. The scenes that he was in stole the movie since he was so over the top and did not give a care about what he did wronf or who he did it too. However to really enjoy this movie even more or get the characters I still have to watch the first movie, since at times they would explain certain things that I did not understand. However it was funny either way. since it is met to be really raunchy and over the top. Some of the scenes were hard to watch it was so gross, or so funny that it hurt to laugh. after watching this movie I cannot wait to complete it by watching the first American Pie movie, and the new one coming out soon, American Reunion; which is supposed to have the entire original cast. Which seems pretty cool.

Day 95: Griff The Invisible

Directed By- Leon Ford

Written By- Leon Ford

Starring- Ryan Kwanten, Maeve Dermody

Critics Review- "With lots of charm and humor, Griff the Invisible is a quirky and sophisticated romance in disguise."- Mark Sells "The Reel Deal"

Rotten Tomatoes Rating- Critics- 61% Audience- 53%

Out a possible 5 stars- 3 stars

SPOILERS AHEAD

My Review-

This movie is totally different from what Ryan Kwanten does on True Blood. Here is kind of shy and awkward and it works perfectly. This movie is like an off beat romance movie, but does not quite show that until half way through the film, unlike most movies where we find out right way in the movie. At times the movie can feel kind of weird and strained, however you feel for the character of Griff and what he does on the side. This is unlike any romance movie you have seen lately or probably ever. They are not the big name actress' or actors they are sort of little known actors that made a quirky indie film about two people that were meant for each, because of the way they were. Another thing that was pretty cool about this movie is that I finally got to hear Kwanten's Aussie accent for the first time, after always hearing him with a southern accent. What I also liked about this movie is how the two actors worked so well together on screen with both their characters being so strange and right for each other. Well this movie is not meant for everyone, it will be right for the people that enjoy quirky offbeat love stories such as this one. Kwanten is really good in this movie as the the shy awkward character and not the playboy and a lovers boy. Here he stands for a purpose that at times we feel like doing. This movie is unlike any other love story in a while and it works because of the acting, by all the actors and coming to the conclusion that they are meant for each other because they are different. Even though the movie was slow and not that much fast paced, it would not have worked at any other pace except for this one, if it was any faster it would not have been as enjoyable, so yes I recommend this movie if you like these types of offbeat movies.

Day 94: Sideways

Directed By- Alexander Payne

Writer(s)- Alexander Payne, Jim Taylor; Based on the book by- Rex Pickett

Starring- Paul Giamatti, Thomas Hayden Church, Sandra Oh Virginia Madson

Critics Review- "From its first minutes, maybe even from the credits, you know you are see something very special."- Terry Lawson "Detroit Free Press"

Rotten Tomatoes Rating- Critics- 96% Audience- 77%

Out a possible 5 Stars- 4 Stars

My Review-

I have always liked most of movies that Paul Giamatti was in, aside from that remake of The Planet of the Apes. Other than that he is a wonderful actor who deserves an Oscar, now this movie can be added to the movies that he was in that are considered to be his best in my opinion, this was some of his best acting since Cinderella Man, which he should have one a Best Supporting Actor Oscar for, and did not. However after watching this movie I can see that he is able to do any character that he does in his films. This movie would not have worked with out its supporting cast; Church, Madson, and Oh were all really good in this film. Even though I really do not like Oh, because I do not think that she is a very good actress, but I guess that she was okay in this movie. This is the second movie on this list that I have watched from Payne, with two more still to be seen on this list, and from this one and The Descendants it seems like he sort of like the drama, and black comedy films, also making books into movies, which at times may or may not work, and judging by the rotten tomatoes score, it seems to be working out for him. From the beginning of the movie, you realize that you are seeing something different, which is why I agree with he critic above, the movie was different, from the dialogue to the connecting of the characters, seemed genuine. I rather enjoy Payne's films even after just watching two to them. Who ever does the casting for his films does the best job of getting actors you would not thing would do such an amazing job in their roles. This movie was smart, funny and dramatic when it need to be. The only problem I had with it was Sandra Oh, that is why I said before that she did just okay, she was not as good as everyone else, and I did not need to see her having sex in the film that part was just wrong. Thomas Hayden Church was funny and dry as always which he is always like in his movies which makes him funny in almost any movie that he does, and that is what I like about him. I would recommend this movie to anybody who as not seen it, for it is a good watch. The crown jewel of the film was Paul Giamatti's acting and his story, he was on the verge of depression and trying to get away from everything by going on a trip with his best friend (Church). As always it does not go as planned like always but this film does it just right, what makes memorable its like going though something with best friend like this is always the best, and makes for a good story, which it seemed like for these two characters in the movie.

Day 93: Immortals

Directed By- Tarsem Singh

Written By- Vlas Parlapanides, Charley Parlapanides

Starrting- Henry Cavill, Stephen Dorff, Luke Evans, Isabel Lucas, Kellan Lutz, Freida Pinto, Mickey Rourke

Critics Review- "All too mortal, a film that dies long before its time." - Roger Moore "Orlando Sentinel"

Rotten Tomatoes Rating- Critics- 37% Audience- 51%

Out of a possible 5 stars- 2 stars

My Review-

This movie was kind of boring, and some of the acting was not good at all. The only good thing about this movie was Stephen Dorff, and Henry Cavill and that is about it. Another thing about this movie, is that he CGI was really not that good, some of the background or other parts of the movie looked so fake, when it could have looked more real. Some of the actor casting was kind of questionable too, such as Isabel Lucas as a god. I think they should have seen in Transfromers 2 that she could not act at all. Well there were some parts that were enjoyable in the movie, the rest of it was not. Mickey Rourke's voice annoyed me throughout the whole entire movie that I was waiting for him to meet his end of the movie, and did not feel anything when his character died. It says from the producers of 300, they should have stuck to the movie 300 and that's it. Some of the costume design was also questionable when they were on Olympus, it was not a good look. The best part of the movie is the last 30 minutes or so they last fight, where another actor that should have had a bigger part in the movie was Luke Evans, I thought he was pretty cool. Other then that this movie did not do it for me, the CGI, and green screen or what ever they used blue screen it could have looked more real and done a whole lot better. After seeing this movie though I am looking forward to seeing how Henry Cavill does as Superman.

Day 92: The Descendants

Directed By- Alexander Payne

Writer(s)- Alexander Payne, Nat Faxon, Jim Rash; Based on the Book By- Kaui Hart Hemmings

Starring- George Clooney, Shailene Woodley, Beau Bridges, Judy Geer, Matthew Lillard, Robert Forster

Critics Review- " "The Descendants" is one of the stranger and yet one of the more effective weepers in recent years."- Richard Roeper "Richard Roeper.com"

Rotten Tomatoes Rating- Critics- 89% Audience- 80%

Out a possible 5 stars- 5 stars

My Review-

At times I like certain George Clooney movies, from some of the Ocean movies, to Up in The Air, not counting his failed movie Batman and Robin. In this movie I believe George Clooney gives one of the best performances of his career. Being one of the movies nominated for Best Picture, at this years past Oscars, I still need to watch four movies to see who I think should have won best picture, and right now it is looks to be it will be a tough decision. I do not want to give much away on this movie, because I think it should be watched for how well the acting is in this film from Clooney, and Woodley. The films breakout star, Shailene Woodley normally plays a high school teenager on some ABC family show, that quite frankly I could care less about, the only clips I have seen were from the show The Soup, and in my opinion Woodley needs to do more big screen movies. She owned her character so well being the troubled daughter of Clooney character Matt King. This movie works so well because it deals with something that we can all relate too a family going through a crisis that they do not know how to deal with. Even though the movie is quite long, it would have hurt it if it was any shorter, it did have its funny moments, and more heartfelt moments. This movie also seemed like it was a family's journey to figure out how they would get through something like this, even though they had no idea how to deal with it. Yes the movie is set in Hawaii and most movies are all happy go lucky films set on this Island, but this movie does not do that, Clooney even mentions it in the opening monologue for the the film, in different wording, but the same idea. The movies soundtrack also helped the movie move along and kept it going. After watching the movie I would like to read the book, and what made me want to see this movie even more is Jim Rash from Community helped write it and seeing him do something more serious then a comedy makes me want to see what else he can do. Even though this one movie that will make you get teary-eyed or even make you cry, it is well worth it. George Clooney did give an Oscar worthy performance, and between watching three movies that had actors that were nominated and won Best Actor this year, I believe that, the Oscar should have gone to Clooney, this story was more relevant and something that people deal with on almost a daily basis, and he capture the movie with his performance, and one day I am hoping that he can win his Best Actor Oscar, because it was well deserved in this movie.
